Nothing wrong with having your go-to distro. But you should have an alternative distro for situations like this.
It's more an "order of precedence" and you normally take the first one from your list that is considered first class by the app you are trying to deploy.

I definitely wouldn't call this a go-to distro situation since it's pretty much Ubuntu or debian as JB said. This is more the - choose what the vendor supports situation.
Umm, Fedora is his go to distro. That has nothing to do with the vendor.
But blindly staying with something like has been stated, is just silly.

I won't sit here and dispute the
right tool for the taskmentality. There is always the 'case' of yes you can do it that way, but it's not recommended. I can use a pair of channel locks to turn a bolt, but likely it'll get chewed up. Yes - it WILL work.. but it's not the RIGHT tool for the task.Anyway - likely will just burn Fedora on a box and load Ubuntu, and determine my reshuffle later... The whole point for some of this was to reduce the PC systems. The only desktop suitable for VM is still rebooting on me,.. so it's slated for a full rebuild / replacement.

Just do LXC or Docker/Podman. You don't need a full VM for it.

Because 16.04 is what Unifi states to use still.

Back to basics. Why are you trying to do this? Are you needing to change your WiFi right now?
If not, just delete it all and worry about it later. UniFi hardware does not have to check in to a controller to function.
Get your other stuff stable, then spin this up.

Follow up, controller is running again under Win10.
I’ll address a Linux system in the future at some point and move over so it can run full time.

Worth it if you have a hypervisor running somewhere with enough extra resources for it - otherwise, in a home environment - not worth it.
