@obsolesce I didn't used to write much at all, but my influx of stuff coming at me to do and watch got massive, and I didn't ever find a suitable digital solution before then, so I was scattered between several programs and services, which just made it worse. So, I dropped back and am currently doing only paper, until I get a solid foundation and method for keeping track of all of this. Then I figure I can find a single system to meet those needs.
Started numbering my pages of notes and tasks and such. I'm up at 116 for this month. That should give you a decent idea on the speed of things for me nowadays lol.
If you're going to write, use a Memogenda. I used to use those for everything until I got hooked on using Outlook Tasks.

I prefer 3.5 edition rules myself. The one with feats and skills/level.

I have a ton of these. They have them at Dollar Tree in 3 packs for $1. I get them when I can.

I'd much rather write with a felt tip.

That brings up the question... Do we need a thread for reviewing role playing games?

Lately my 'go to' pen is the Sharpie Pen,.. But I also like my Fisher Space Pen and the Foray Advance Ink Ballpoint .7mm Needle tip.
For pencils,.. wow.. lately its been whatever is closest, .. but the no. 2 Ticonderoga pencil seems to write a nice deep line. Granted it has to be sharpened..
Mechanicals - I have a load of .5mm lead from when I did office clean outs 20 years ago - but the .7mm is a better line
I have a few composition books I have had cut down so it will match my tablet as well as some Rite in the Rain books
Office work - legal pad,.. and it's nearly an inch thick as I need to review / mark off things that are done -

@coliver Can't go wrong there!

See, I had an issue with the .7 because it was big enough to go dull and start writing lighter. I tried the .3, .5, .7, and .9 and found the .5 to be a good center.
I've moved over to a binder for paper. I was going to go Bullet Journal style, but I go through about 150 sheets of paper a month. A notebook doesn't get me through a month, and Bullet Journal is lined up to last about six. lol.

A draftsman's trick I learned from an old draftsman. Slowly twist the pencil in your hand as you write. It prevents it from getting a "dull" side and keeps you from having to sharpen it as much. Not sure how well it works with mechanical pencils though.

It works very well, and I still need to do this with my .5, but with the .7 it was big enough that eventually you'd just end up with a rounded tip before you fully got through that section of lead
