It is not stealing when it is public information anyway.

Looks like the EU is moving to restrict free speech on the internet: https://edri.org/eu-member-states-agree-on-monitoring-filtering-of-internet-uploads/ and http://copybuzz.com/copyright/france-spain-italy-and-portugal-go-beyond-maximalist-on/.

@kelly When I get some time I planned on making a whole thread on this in several forums. From what I've read and heard these rules are bat-shit insane.

WTLF, first gdpr and now a bill to limit what people say and references to a source?
And I thought the USA was an internet backwater...

You have absolutely no idea how backwards the EU is right now, as far as I read. Sure, I have a bit of bias, but at this point I feel like they've crossed over lines that anyone should be worried about.
But, that manages to get a bit political, and is a whole different discussion.

@fiyafly I'm starting to think that all of these new laws are a means of protecting the political leadership there from having their dirty laundry being aired out.
What other reasons, regardless of the geuss of "protecting EU citizen privacy" could there be?

Authoritarianism? Totalitarianism? Which kind of go with your theory.
People may think I'm stretching it a bit or going a bit conspiracy theorist, but here's an example. A man in the UK went from arrest, to sentencing, to prison in a matter of three hours for 'contempt of court' and 'breaching the peace' for reporting on a case that had a gag order on it. His lawyer wasn't contacted, he was given one. His family didn't know he was in prison until they got home from work. He was given a 13 month sentence. There is a lot more detail to that, and a lot of people chalk it up to 'he was spreading hate speech so he deserved it', but I didn't put the name in that paragraph so that there'd be a bit more neutral of a reading. The man was Tommy Robinson, but how many times, ever, have you heard of the courts moving that quickly? Ever?
EDIT: Also, the judge originally put a gag order on the fact that he sentenced Robinson. The case Tommy Robinson was reporting on was a grooming gang case.
EDIT 2: I MEAN COME ON THE MAYOR OF LONDON WANTS TO ENFORCE ROUNDING THE TIPS OF KITCHEN KNIVES TO CURB KNIFE CRIME!
...Sorry... It's just starting to get to me.

I could go on and on about this, but even if it may be applicable on ML, it probably isnt on this thread lol. There are some dire things happening in the world today, but people just want to ignore it. Everything has become political, and facts have become hate speech. I am longing to have a discussion on a lot of this stuff, but since it has all been turned political and people hate discussing politics, well, not many people to discuss with.

Yes. Yes they could. But, it's being legitimately proposed. A judge backed him up on it:
“Why we do need 8' or 10' kitchen knives with points? Butchers and fishmongers do, but how often, if at all, does a domestic chef use the point of an 8' or 10' knife?”The Mayor of London tweeted this: No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife. Anyone who does will be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law.

Cars are way more lethal a weapon than a person with a knife, regardless of the length of blade.

@fiyafly Yeah if he is your mayor, you guys are done for. He is as bad as Ajit Pai. .

LOL that exact debate spawned the "Truck of Peace" meme, but that could be considered hate speech so I digress.

LUCKILY I'm American. I did just reach out to Huw, though, to see how he's feeling about it all.

They shouldn't be, hopefully we'll have that fixed and soon. Humans driving cars is going to be a clearly reckless endeavor soon.

@scottalanmiller The overarching point is more of "do you think rounding off kitchen knives will curb violent crime?"
-
@fiyafly I know it won't and violence is a natural part of the world, just because the motif isn't "because I need to eat" doesn't mean that violence isn't natural.
Look at chimps, they are constantly fighting as a show of power and leadership.
