Is that true? Is this the hindsight is 20/20 argument? I don't see that as the case in a lot of bad decisions I've seen made (or made myself) I knew the risks and that there was a potential better solution but decided, "f*** it let's do it anyway."

I do believe so, sometimes. Many times I agree with you and the "f*** it let's do it anyway."
Most of the bad decisions made with the F'it attitude are done by using our gut. That makes the decision more emotional than logical. Boy do I get myself in trouble with "gut" decisions. LOL

That isn't a bad decision.
In 3 years there could be a way better system that exist and costs even less and offers more. But you needed a system 3 years ago not 3 years in the future.
You picked the best solution for the organization that was available at the time.

You usually waste a lot of money by building for too far out in the future. You should ideally build for what you need now, but something that is scalable.

This is true, sort of. But it doesn't mean that the old decision was bad. This is something that plagues a lot of people in IT, I've seen, like when we talk about RAID 5. At the time, with the options at the time, RAID 5 was a good choice. Then, factors changed and today it is not a good choice. That it is not a good choice today has no effect on if it was a good choice then. But a lot of people feel badly about having made that good choice in the past because it wouldn't continue to be a good choice today - which makes no sense. That's like thinking the Romans were stupid for using paper instead of computers.

I do believe so, sometimes. Many times I agree with you and the "f*** it let's do it anyway."

I guess in that case, it's more that it was always a bad decision and decision process, not that it was good and became bad only later.
