Samsung 850 Pro - No advanced replacement
-
@frodooftheshire Just got off the phone - yep - they stopped doing advanced replacements a year ago. The guy was nice enough and gave me a direct e-mail ([email protected]) to the management team to see if they will make an exception.

Any luck from management?

But the warranty for that is 10 years, how much space reservation did you give it and TB written ?

They are replacing, but they are not providing an advanced replacing. They want it shipped back.
So the warranty is being honored.

No different than almost any equipment in the SMB space. You don't get advanced replacement on even SAN and NAS devices in that space.

Synology replaced my NAS advanced replacement...without a credit card too.

Wow, really? That's pretty cool. Any special warranty option?
-

Very nice. QNAP holds your gear for two weeks after it has died on you.
-
@scottalanmiller I have a QNAP that I purchased before I knew better... so far no issues with it... i think it is moving out of warranty pretty soon... so I'll be replacing it at some point.

I have not heard back since sending my e-mail to management. I haven't had to do a lot of RMAs on hard drives personally, but the ones I have done (Western Digital/Samsung) have all been advanced replacement. In the past I've also been able to do advanced replacements on motherboards & network equipment so for me advanced replacement was the norm, not the exception.
BTW someone had asked - I have 6 TB written and the drive has 30% free space. Also I'm pretty sure it only has a 5 year warranty, but I could be wrong.
