BrickerBots Targeting Poorly Secured Internet Connected Consumer Devices
-
The attack, known as a PDoS or "Permanent Denial of Service" is not complex, essentially in its current form it is just a search for totally unsecured Internet attached devices like consumer routers left with default usernames and passwords. The bot logs in, deletes all of the files on the device and breaks the network connection. The device is not likely actually bricked, just the cost of repair is more than the device is worth through a combination of the low value of the device and the low skill of the average consumer.

This might end up being a good thing, forcing the low hanging fruit to start securing their networks.

I mean this will completely kill all of the fucking devices that are abused for the IOT attacks it would be awesome

It'll make a lot of people rethink ignoring security. Which is a good thing because losing a $40 device is way better than having bank accounts compromised or identity stolen.
-
@scottalanmiller most of those consumer day devices will be effectively Brecht because they don't have any Consol access to fix them some of them potentially can do a hard reset to some kind of original Bic and Begley a lot of them probably won't be a part filesystem white
-
And I completely apologize for apparently talking too fast for Siri that time
-
But the people affected will just go buy new devices, connect them back up without changing default access pw

At some point it just becomes funny
