Which drill set to acquire

Buy one just with bits.

Dewalt is a good brand, and all I used when I was an alarm installer. Now I use a B&D for everything.
An entire home remodel in fact.

Lots of people like B&D, but they are definitely at the lowest tier.
Dewalt is fine, but our family is primarily Milwaukee, then Ryobi.

I have never had a good cordless basic milwaukee, always shit. Their real power tools are awesome.
Have not used Ryobi enough to rate.
But @momurda is not going to be using this much. A basic drill and bits are more than sufficient.

This is what I have, and it sure beats the hell out of anything I have ever tried: Makita, black & Decker, Dewalt, etc don't compare imho.
Mine is a couple years old, using the 4.0 battery. This is the 5.0. Closest I could find.

I own both DeWalt and Ryobi, and the Ryobi is a POS.

Ridgid. These are awesome. Got these on sale with a kit with some other tools. Driver and drill. Batteries last forever, and are replaced for free under warranty when they stop working properly.

Rigid is the way to go. Cheap, and they just work. Have a Dewalt drill which is just awful compared to the Rigid one I got for half the price.

@coliver Right. I bought a Dewalt set, over 12 years ago when they still used NiCAD batteries. Finally decided to buy into the the Ridgid brand. There are different models of each drill, that on the surface, look very similar, but there is a big cost difference. Go for the middle of the road stuff that has better internal parts, LED lights, and battery level indicators. Makes a big difference IMHO.

Yep, got the middle of the road stuff as part of a kit that had a cordless sander, drill/driver, and a radio. The set cost me ~as much as the Dewalt did, maybe $10-20 more.

@coliver Nice. I got those 2 drills, a recip saw, a full size circular saw, and 2 extra batteries. It was a crazy sale around Christmas.

I've been using Craftsman battery powered for 20+ years. I've never had a tool fail yet, but have upgraded because of batteries.
At xmas, you can often get the tool free with a battery purchase.
