So the topic came up in another thread and I thought it would be good to have a thread for those who want to talk about their trials and such.

I'll start off by saying that this is something for those who want it known. I want the additional pressure knowing that others are aware of my progress.

Most of my Adult life I was > 300 pounds. IN 2001 the Doctor said I was Type 2 Diabetic and needed drugs. I said screw that. I can be not a fat bastard.
I started eating better. A few years later I started exercising at work on my breaks. Just steps or walking the parking lot.

I went from 350 pounds (160kg) in 2001 to 176 pounds (80kg) in 2007 (on my wedding day). Many things changed in my life since 2007 and I gained some weight back (maxed at 109kg / 240 lbs).

I want to get back under 90kg / 200lbs. My goal for the next 15 days is to get under 100kg.

Me and a co-worker have been tracking it all year. Here is my progress.
      imgur

That goal weight is just the US standard for 5' 10" medium build. My goal will be to stay under 90kg / 200lbs.

I did Medifast a few years ago and lost 90lbs. It was great.

I have personally never followed any programs. Just watched the food intake and got exercise.

This was me at GenCon in 2005. I had lost 50 pounds but was still around 300.

I'm 6'3" was 180pounds 6 months ago. Since I haven't been able to do much in the last few months I think I'm at like 230 right now I need to get back to 180 or less soon!

You're 6'3", 230 and COMPLAINING?! I'm 6'4", 310-315 (last I checked) and would kill to be at 230 again! Damn bipolar meds have put a crap ton of weight on me.

I should add, though, I've been told by dozens (no exaggeration) of people that I carry my weight very well and no one ever guesses my weight. They all usually lowball by 30-60 lbs. So I have that going for me.

Spent the last three days at 102.4kg. This morning the scale said 101.6kg. I must admit, it feels nice!

That is some good, sustainable progress, Jared - are you incorporating any exercise in there?
It's not always about weight loss itself, but developing routines that reinforce a healthy lifestyle to keep the weight off. A balanced diet with lean protein and vegetables, along with minimal carbs and starches is one way to go that has worked well for me. http://www.myfitnesspal.com is a good online community tool with related mobile apps for tracking exercise and calorie intake.

                                    @Katie
Not doing any specific exercise, basically because family/work.

Seriously over the last year we have tried and tried to get some type of consistent exercise schedule working for me. Nothing holds up.
Early morning cannot happen because I simply will NOT get up that early. Period. I know myself better than to even say I can do early morning workouts.
We tried me going to the gym right after I drop the kids off at school, but work simply interrupts too much to make it work.
Tried early evenings but that kept failing due to either working late or having to do something for the kids.
Tried late evening, but by the time the kids are bathed and in bed, and I read story time, I am about to pass out myself. Story time is too relaxing of an activity, and many nights i will fall asleep with the girls.

I was able to add regular exercise the first time around because I worked in a cube farm and had fixed break and lunch times. I used those times to exercise. I would walk up and down 4 flights of stairs for the solid 15 minute break times in the morning and afternoon. At lunch I would walk for ~2 miles.

Now I have a completely flexible schedule and I make use of that to have family time when it is better for my kids. Instead of only seeing dad for 10 minutes int he morning and an hour or two at night.

@JaredBusch I can understand the work/life balance conundrum. I have a hard time fitting in as much exercise as I want.

Bringing back an old topic because i just linked it to someone..

I am at 98.6kg (216.92lbs) this morning. I most certainly have not continued losing like I wanted.

That lack of a way to consistently get exercise that does not impact my schedule is so damned hard.

I am eating healthy, my last blood test had everything in the normal ranges except cholesterol.

Just need to get a routine.

6'4" at 270lbs... really need to start doing some of this stuff. Eating healthier would be a good start though.
