Role play Session

That sounds naughty.
What about a session about how you can present ideas in a business to make a difference. So many IT folk are hampered by not getting their ideas listened to or accepted. What if we could change that?
Good practical "take home" knowledge that makes for career opportunities, too.
-
And the idea I didn't finish is that we do role playing on stage to demonstrate how to take an idea from "this seems good" to "and a business person might accept it".
Ideas around vetting, peer review and presentation.
-
This is a good idea. One area that I've saw groups struggle is knowing when to give feedback. Usually you let someone present their idea, then provide feedback when they're done. But when it comes to someone needing help (let's say 2 people are providing feedback to someone), often either of those 2 people cut off the speaker, then talk between each other, and the speaker is left half-baked on the topic.
When I bring that up in groups that do that, we go back and re-try. After only one feedback session the improvement is impressive because you're giving real feedback, in comparison to what was unfolding previously. I usually also give positive feedback where it's due (on the second try). Something like "see, you changed $technique and it was effective because $reason. Nice job."

And here I thought you were talking about DnD at MangoCon.

That's an idea for 2017.

We have at least two DnD GameMasters - @scottalanmiller and @JaredBusch
However, I'm sure @JaredBusch would be just happy to send a (insert Level 7 monster name here) that will take out half the campaign.

This could be combined with IT Finance or as a compliment to IT finance. The role-playing aspect could be very powerful. Especially if we had some real world examples from the community.

(insert fanfare): Virtualization Hardware Refresh Approved!
You've reached level 2. The gods are certainly smiling on you. Your strength increased by one, your stamina increased by 3, your charisma increased by 3, your wisdom increases by 2.
You have 1048576 XP required to reach level 3.

We could role a D20 to determine the manager's reaction to your presentation based on your charisma score.

Where a roll of 20 he just picks you up and throws you out of his office?

Or a roll of 1.

A low roll would be a good reaction IMO.
Manager rolls a D20, gets 1, "You don't get yelled, idea accepted"

You've never played DnD I'm guessing?
-
@coliver I have, but I'm also assuming the manager has to play.

Nah, in DnD a roll of 20 is a critical success, which almost always succeeds, whereas a roll of 1 is a critical failure and always fails.

As the manager would be an NPC of sorts where high rolls he gets to destroy you.

But if it is based on your charisma score you would roll the die and add you charisma... wow. You know what nevermind I just realized I'm arguing DnD on a public forum.

This would be perfect for new folks starting their career. Better yet: "How to sell to your boss/customer by adding value or saving money for the company.

This made me giggle, but yeah, you're right, although if the roll was a mid roll, the DM would probably roll as the NPC manager to see if you were effective.
