That's true I think FreshDirect delivers from NYC. But I am like 90 minutes from there and they come here.

Having a look at Ubiquiti Edgerouter X prices
Looks like the stock power adapter isn't compatible with Australia...

Well, that's going to bump the cost up a smidge.
I'd also need a modem, so this will require more research

The Dell has a license for Windows 2000 Pro, is a Pentium III AND the Service tag is still recognised by Dell!!! However it has not been tested for Windows 10 upgrade, I'm not sure how I feel about this ๐Ÿ˜›

I found a much older Toshiba T4700CT/200 when doing a job a few months ago. That takes the cake for the oldest relic that I've come across in recent times. Specs: http://www.toshiba-europe.com/computers/products/notebooks/t4700ct/product.shtm

Which according to PC Mag 28 Jun 1994 (Google Book here) was $4,475 back in 1994! Wowzers!

EDIT: According to http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/ that's worth $7,266.50 today!

Dreamt that I was in a zombie apocalypse. Had to catch up on some sleep, got none yesterday (CPAP issues.) @dominica got almost none last night as she stayed up late and then had to take her parents to the airport early this morning. She is fast asleep now.

Thinking I might have to make a FiOS move sooner than later...

"Thank you for being a Verizon Fiosยฎ customer. Weโ€™re committed to providing you with the best internet experience possible, backed by the latest technology.
Our records indicate that you have an older model router that is being discontinued. If you do plan to keep using your current router, we will begin billing, on 9.29.16, a monthly Router Maintenance Charge of $2.80 (plus taxes), to ensure we deliver the best support.
You also have the option to upgrade to a certified, pre-owned Fios Advanced
Wi-Fi Router. Itโ€™s a one-time purchase of $59.99 (plus taxes) with free shipping and handling for a limited time. This is a great opportunity to enhance your Fios experience with faster Wi-Fi speeds.

Can you buy and use your own modem, etc with FIOS? It's not in my area yet, but I'm always curious about the equipment requirements of various providers.

It's a little complicated because their TV service also runs through the box they give you. But I think you can. You can definitely buy one through them.

But like here at work, we don't use any of that stuff. Just ethernet right into our building.

I meant buy your own equipment, not theirs. And I would never want their TV service (or any), so I guess that changes what gear can even be used.

I don't believe so. If you can, I don't know where you can buy the gear since you need FiOS specific fiber gear. I don't know why you'd want to, though. It's very high quality gear with built in UPS and everything.

Theirs is free, included and on their side of the demarc. So not of any concern.

That's only complicated if we aren't talking about Internet.

Buy one through them? Are you sure? I don't believe that I have that option. It's just included. There is no modem as there is no analogue line here. It's an Ethernet handoff. Nothing needed, it goes straight to your firewall.

Because with cable internet, the gear that they lease or sell you is overpriced crap. And 7-8 months of leasing would pay for a new, better one, but I know fiber is different. I get angry when an ISP tries to tell me I have to use their equipment (because the only decent one here is comcrap, and they are liars of the highest order. And their equipment sucks).
