Hulu and Netflix Streaming Devices

I have a core i5 8GB of ram computer right now that I use for Youtube, Hulu and maybe some netflix (don't have a subscription right now). The interface of using chrome just isn't that great for a TV. Would the Roku 3 be the best experience to have? What doesn't the Roku 4 support hulu? does that mean the Roku 3 will soon not work with it either?

My girl has been nagging me to put a computer upstairs in the living room, to use things such as Netflix, Hulu etc. I've considered OS's like XBMC, but when I looked it didn't support Hulu or Netflix.
It was simply a media server for whatever I had. Which was completely pointless at the time for me.

The other option (I really like although I think the Roku interface is a bit better) is the Chromecast. It doesn't support Amazon Instant Video, and no plans to in the future. But for 35$ it is hard to beat. We have a few of them in our house.

I have a Roku 3 and it works fine with Youtube, Hulu, Netflix, and a whole bunch of other channels / apps... I'm using SlingTV for keeping the Disney channel up for the kid.
But we use Hulu almost nightly during the week.

I have a Amazon Fire TV Stick, works great for hulu, Amazon Prime TV and a bunch of other things I just don't use on it. I also have an Apple TV for ITunes stuff. Between the 2 they do everything I want.

Oh, That's unfortunate it did the last time I looked sorry. It also used to support Netflix looks like that is gone as well.

Yeah for some reason companies like stopping XBMC from supporting it, I guess they get kickbacks from Roku and such.

I have been supper happy with the a $65 apple TV for this kind of thing. That or a Amazon Fire TV or Fire stick, Chromecast, etc. A whole computer for this kind of thing is overkill.

We have an AppleTV (1st gen and 3rd gen) and love it. The big issue, though, is that (for us) it doesn't support Amazon as well. And we use that heavily (almost as much as Netflix, way more than Hulu.) So we are considering the Amazon FireTV. Not the stick, although that would be very portable, but the larger box version with the additional video game controller for playing Android games. Because both kids love to game we thought that that version might be worth the upgrade from the stick.
Although for travel, the stick is certainly ideal.

Not only that, but the interface and low power consumption features of the tiny "dedicated" boxes is so nice. And many have games now (Amazon, latest Apple TV, etc.) which are different from the available PC games that it makes for an interesting addition to the household technology set as well.

I have a Chromecast v1 - $20 and it's yours. I personally can't stand the need to have another device sending data to it, controlling it, etc.
I've been using my 5+ year old Blue Ray player for most of my online services, Netflix, Plex, Vudu, but the interface is getting long in the tooth. I'm considering an amazon Fire TB.

That's probably the biggest complaint I have. The need to have another device.... that and not having access to Amazon.

Yeah, needing an extra device makes that essentially useless for most users, I would imagine.

I've loved my Chromecasts, but they're a bit flaky and the kids found using an iPod to control them a bit hard to understand. On Saturday I bought a NOW TV box, which is a locked down Roku LT sold by Sky and the kids (and me) find it much easier and faster to control with a remote than using the iPod to control the Chromecast. Only downside is it doesn't support Netflix.

I thought about that as I don't have a blueray player and will likely get one. However most unlike the Roku or Amazon TV isn't there primary purpose so it's not as polished and when hulu, amazon or netflix updates they have no incentive to update to make their devices to keep working.

I tried the Android TV, and it was awful and I just ended up taking it back to Best Buy. I would for sure suggest the Fire Line. I would have but, having Airplay to the Laptop was needed for our setup.

There isn't an "Android TV" product, is there? There is just a large family of products built on top of Android? Or is there an Android TV now too? The Fire line are Android devices, for example. As is the Chromecast and, I would guess, the Roku.
