 Open Explorer, Right click on the My computer, then PropertiesOr, try Windows Logo+Break: System Properties dialog box

 Looking the the verbiage above seems that version of 8 is not compatible with joining to a domain. May be similar to the 'Windows Home Edition'....

 If you had that new Windows Phone docking system everyone could just pick up their desktops and take them with them! Dammit, I just created the use case for that.

 Especially if they are folks that can work on their apps using RDP. Set your phone / tablet in the dock fire up the RDP app and you're good to go. 8-)
