Although some places are getting better.

When I was in downtown Atlanta over labor Day this year, I was able to get cellular phone and data services. The last 4 times I was there, it was nearly impossible to make a phone call, as for data, forget about it.

Yes, the boss and I have the same entire PC brand new HP Elitedesk 800 G1 SFF.

If it was the video driver, I would expect the whole monitor to flicker, not just a very specific part of the screen.

@technobabble, no my monitor has only flickered twice that I've noticed since turning it on 6 days ago.

A full out exploded view of the entries side by side with the new one would give us the best results, but there is probably privacy in there so that might not be possible.

Why not Linux? Free and no need to run several versions behind.

How does it hand off a phone call that is not on IP?

Call turns into WiFi. No call originates on IP. Or effectively none.

You'll have to add more explanation at some point.

Yeah, there are some programs that do pings under the hood and give you a chart or a cumulative result that are really handy. Could script that too, of course. But ping is the right technical solution at the network layer.

@scottalanmiller Many have the technology in place since they sell femtocells but I'm not sure why the never full implement it down to the phones directly. I guess it's too much work on their part to make it work on every phone. But I could see them just making an android app/plugin and one for iphones. They don't need to worry about RIM too much.

The ERL can easily do QoS policies for VoIP or anything else you want to do. It is a very hard to beat device for the price.

The upcoming ERL upgrade is going to have that setup by default too. No word on when it will release though. Likely not this year.

PostgreSQL to get precedence today and Oracle to be an afterthought.

Especially considering oracles prices are plain crazy. Though dynamics isn't exactly cheap.

Cost is a factor but not the big one. PostgreSQL is up there in the top echelons of enterprise databases today (it's what IBM ran internally when I was there and IBM owns Informix and DB2!!) and is what most modern development platforms (like Ruby on Rails) as their de facto standard and what most large hosting environments (Heroku, OpenShift) provide as their standard relational database. That is pretty what has propelled it from being a big player to being the database to beat in recent years.

PostgreSQL and SQL Server will likely be the last two big players that matter in the RDBMS space. Even MySQL / MariaDB is fading from the PostgreSQL onslaught these last few years.

The big competition for both is coming from the NoSQL camp, not other RDMBSs.
