    • RE: Starwind Site Issues

Another fine example of NOT understanding how the web works.

The page above http://esx.starwindsoftware.com/starwind-vsa-overview should have been redirected to http://esx.starwindsoftware.com/ which I believe is the page you were expecting.

www should redirect to http (or vise versa), personally I prefer http.

Redirects are CRUCIAL in keeping search engines happy as well as providing the end user (@scottalanmiller) from experiencing crap instead of a webpage.

I wish I was the web developer/marketer for StarWind!

      @Dashrender That's weird...is it running W8.1

      Yes

I really should have speakers on my work PC...I haven't had sound since since 2011 on my W7 PC. I mean I have earbuds connected for occasional music or webinar. I am usually surprised at the noises Windows makes when onsite with a clients PC.

    • RE: Disk2vhd and VirtualBox woes

So let me put this out there in case this happens to someone else.

If you have a P2V done by Disk2vhd and you get the a disk read error occurred, here is what worked for me:

*open Disk Manager and mount VHD

      • make sure you have a partition for System Reserved and mark it active (I had a raw partition so I had to format it with NTFS and marked it active.)
      • Create a new Virtual Machine in Hyper-V and do NOT connect to VHD
      • Connect to VHD
      • Boot to boot disk, W7 install disk will work. WARNING Repair with System Recovery will not work if you use x64 on x32 VHD. Also using the Hyper-V manager in W10 preview, the DVD wouldn't always show up for boot, so I used a 32bit W7 HP ISO.
*Proceed with System Recovery and wait for the reboot.

    • RE: OneDrive for business

Success! And I must say that although support was not as quick as I would have liked, the service and tech was excellent.

I mentioned that i was a tech during the phone conversations where they have you tell them again why you need help (which I hate because I have already crafted my complaint and often my steps to fix said problem.)

As mentioned by @scottalanmiller and possibly others, SharePoint and ODfB has a list of file extension that can't be used. However the tech said they don't really have an updated list of what is bad. Example this list doesn't show .htm, .html, .php however he has seen these files work or gum up the works.

      The fix?

      • Stop ODfB sync client.
      • Copy data elsewhere since the stuff on the harddrive was the known good master list.
      • Delete the folder that was associated with ODfB
      • Delete all files on ODfB website (O365 admin dashboard) except my OneNote files
      • Click Sync from ODfB website and confirm that the OneNote Notebooks synced
      • ODfB showed up in File Explorer
      • Start adding one folder at a time and watch/wait for syncing. Zipped every web file to make sure they weren't going to hang up the works.
      • All folders and files have been synced

I had to talk to the manager after the incident was resolved and was told that I would have the tech's contact info and to contact him for ANY Sharepoint/ODfB issues, even for my clients. Wooo hoooo!

    • Do we have a MAX RemoteManagement Guru here?

Just like the title says. I am spending way to much time tinkering and searching http://maxfocus.com, http://linkedin.com and Google for really simple queries and coming up with nothing to use.

If you are guru or know you way around the program please say so. I will start posting questions individually, maybe we can become the default resource for MAX RemoteManagement platform.

The O365 documentation is especially bad.

I think the worst thing about it is sometimes you feel like you are on a 3rd party website. Azure, Office 365, AD FS, and other O365 documentation uses completely different themes.

Technet uses the same basic theme. When you look at a Technet Article, you know its Official MS documentation

That is so funny and true.

    • GFI RemoteManagement Windows Service check - Group Policy Client

I have a total of 4 machines with GFI RM agent on them. 3 are W8 and one is W10 (relatively new installs).

Under daily checks, the Windows Services Check - Group Policy Client I am getting

      *Status Stopped

      • 7 consecutive failures, status STOPPED
      • 101 consecutive failures, status STOPPED
      • 75 consecutive failures, status STOPPED

When you click the link the info just repeats itself. These PC's are running fine, so is it an issue or not?

I ended up changing the users Chrome password. I also recommended that she change all passwords. She had just started using LastPass and was adding sites as she went. Now she knows how to use the random password generator and is changing all passwords.

    • RE: Adding items to MAX RemoteManagement System Tray (Solved)

      @GregoryHall @Minion-Queen

Someone in the LinkedIn MAX RemoteManagement group had the answer I needed.

According to MS information on this website the correct way to call programs in the System32 folder is like this:

%windir%\Sysnative\name-of-file.exe, or for the Snipping Tool: %windir%\Sysnative\snippingtool.exe.

Once MAX RM pushed out the update to the client, it worked as expected.

    • RE: Security by using .net instead of .com

@Dashrender Got it. I have actually seen that a lot. They don't call it security per say, they usually justify the .net as the SSL site and the .com is the public facing site. Some think its security by obscurity (or is that absurdity?), others just want to keep things separate.

Although SSL on the whole site used to be something everyone avoided, Google has now suggested that all sites use SSL.
