@Minion-Queen did you see the part about merging the two technologies? Oy...I liked that they were separate.

Yes I am not very happy at all. I like the separation!

How can they merge them? If you have a hotmail and a work Office365, that's two separate accounts and two different types of OneDrives...

I don't know, this is MS...they do things either awesomely or assbackwards.

    • RE: Office 365 Outlook Online Rant

From what I read it was available in the last Exchange version but not the newest one. I would like to say on a tablet having to expand each folder and sub folder to find if there is mail it quite annoying and not good use of time.

However this has changed the way I use Outlook for the better. I am moving more to OneNote and Evernote for archiving and plan on using rules for mail that can wait a day or two to be read.

@thanksaj think copy and paste. The other reason I wish it worked with other apps, is when someone keeps texting me and i can't do anything else.

    • RE: Let's talk about meetings

I would have to say meetings can be good or bad depending on who is in charge and if they actually want something to come from the meeting. Meetings with clients about projects or potential products always seem to end up the same way. A total waste of time, nothing gets decided and I usually get the privilege to sit through 2-3 more meeting in the year going over the same stuff. I feel there needs to be better documentation on my side and perhaps color pictures on their side. I know tech can be overwhelming, but for M&P small businesses it can be a challenge. Perhaps because I am break/fix for these clients, that could be part of the problem.

The meetings usually start from a pain point that either they or I find. The next meetings are to talk about the same problem again. The solutions and prices are usually the same and no go ahead is ever discussed and then we have another meeting. If I am lucky to actually get a meeting about Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning, its just not sexy enough for them to take seriously. In fact it would be better to just talk some more about the other issues that they aren't spending money on. And of course I don't charge for the meetings, perhaps I should. I should probably be charging for research too.

When I walk into a new client's office, usually there is NO documentation and no one knows anything. I guess it's SOP for small IT shops to leave no documentation for the client.

Maybe we are doing what we want to be doing. Maybe everybody is different? I dont hire a "goon" because I like the relationship I have with my clients, and i'm still looking for someone who will maintain the quality of service I provide.

As an other one man shop, I get it. Hire someone else, I would love to, but sometimes the reason a one man shop is a one man shop is because there is not enough work to pay two men.

Anyway, I am looking forward to time off. Last year I got 3 days out of town after Christmas and a week in the mountains of Georgia. The first was very relaxing for me. I could quickly and easily check emails, support tickets a few times a day. I even took 5 minutes to answer a frantic business client's question. Now the cabin in the GA mountains, well that sucked since we had no phone, no text, email etc. 14 of us using 128kb wireless connection. I didn't even have Sprint service. By the 3rd day, I didn't worry as we left the cabin daily for excursions and 5 miles down the road, everyone's phones and tablets went off at the same time showing us what we missed.

Next vacation I am hoping that I have better coverage not just for work, but I was also a week with Netflix. I could live without the social networks and luckily I was able to DL my Kindle books while in town or I would have gone crazy.

    • RE: Office 365 users versus email accounts

@alexntg That is what I needed to hear, O365 ProPlus has no Exchange, no SharePoint but according to the website, http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/business/office-365-proplus-business-software-FX103213513.aspx it had Lync.

I will just keep E3 so I don't have to change anything.
