It's rare that they allow betas to roll into final releases.
That is what I kind of figured. I just didn't know if anyone had heard otherwise.

RE: Windows 10... Finished in June?
Just out of curiosity how does the licensing work? I have 1 Windows laptop left that I wouldn't mind using to try it out. It came out of the box with Windows 7, updated it to 8.1, wouldn't mind trying 10. If I have to reinstall 8, it is kinda a pain to get start from scratch. So, in short, if I download the 10 trial, can I just roll that into the final release without having to format and reinstall an older version of Windows first?

Just tried to search for an article here, and all of my results are 6 months + old. Thought I would bring it up before Friday,

RE: Do Apple Products "Just Need More Work"?
@scottalanmiller Agreed, I don't use mine much, but there are times that having Windows around is nice. The way VMWare does it, all your files and users folders are mapped, so if you have a document on your desktop, you can three finger swipe to the left and basically change OS's to Windows, open it, do something to it, save it, then swipe back and manage it in OSX. It feels super natural, and for the cost of the OS and $70 for Fusion IMO totally worth it.

I'll find out. I will be making the jump to Apple as my desktop in three days! A big jump for me. Windows and Linux I have used extensively, Apple Mac almost not at all. So this is going to be quite the transition for me to make.
With VMFusion and the synced user folders between mac and a Windows 7 VM migration is a breeze. I have been on this platform for 5 months now, and I hate to admit it, but I absolutely love it. Honestly the hardest idea for me to get over with Mac, is system files, are hidden, and you don't get to see them. You have your documents, and just don't worry about everything else. Good luck, and feel free to reach out if I can help.

I would need a pretty good reason why someone, as a consumer, should buy something other than a Chromebook and a really, really good reason why to splurge on a Mac.
This is my feelings exactly. I have a brand new Macbook Pro for work as an iOS Developer. So that counts as a good reason, but at home I read on a 2013 Nexus 7 and bought a $200 Chromebook for everything else. It has been 4 months now and I haven't had much of a need for my older Windows 8 laptop I replaced. I moved my files to Google Drive, and get 8 hour battery life, and I can throw the Chromebook under the coffee table with 3 fingers. It would take a lot to get me to switch back, and for me it would never be Linux. To many stupid troubleshooting and compatibly issues in the past for me to ever consider it for a home PC replacement.

RE: IP Address: Dynamic or Static
I wouldn't say you gain nothing. There are plenty of places like firewall logs, where you may only get an IP. In that case there is no need to look somewhere else for the name. If it is manageable, why not? I agree that it is rarely manageable.

RE: IP Address: Dynamic or Static
In my old environment we were 95% static because of the nature of the business. 40 locations with 4-10 systems each. It was nice to be able to see a single IP, and know City, Store, and physical location within store based off of simply an IP. Doesn't scale well, but nice if you can manage it.

RE: I am defeated
I have too made my career to date by being able to do not only just the impressive, but the ridiculous with little to no IT budget. Not just running ESXi in production, but multiples, and putting backup images on external Hard Drives that are salvages put into enclosures purchased on new egg so when my 2nd hand hardware failed, I could get business back up and running. As far as others looking down on that, let 'em. So what, at the end of the day business was back up and running, I'm happy, boss is happy, and I have some good resume material for the next job. Shoe string IT stories are just a great excuse for a beer and a laugh, don't let it bring you down. If you think respect from peers, bigger budgets, and nice equipment will bring you happiness in your career, you are mistaken. Happiness comes from honestly doing the best with what you have and a sense of accomplishment in seeing a project come to completion and seeing it work.
TLDR: Haters ganna hate.

RE: Career Assessment: When to Hold, When to Fold
I didn't get to watch it either, however I just made this jump. I left my job of 8 years with a little pep talk from SAM. I have never been happier, and a complete reboot and turning my world upside down has been awesome so far. Thanks again Scott.

IT All worked out
My last post on here was picking your self up by the boots when an opportunity was missed. You guys couldn't have been more right. In the following weeks the School district that I had applied at has taken out a 8 million dollar loan to cover the rest of the expenses in opening their new building and people are working around the clock to make deadlines. It seems like a disaster. I have since applied and accepted a job for a construction products manufacture here is town. I will be going in as a System Integration Specialist and C# developer working on everything from factory automation programming to network design and infrastructure. It is a sweet job, better work/life balance and great benefits. Thanks for the supporting words, it was all a blessing in disguise.

@scottalanmiller That would be one hell of a relocation. Let me know if you have anything open up in NW Ark.
Central Arkansas here...good to see another Arkansan on here...
Well Joplin, Mo here, but if I had to relocate, Rogers/Bentonville would be top of the list.

RE: Missed it by that much
In general the whole process has made me realize I have a degree, 6-8 years in the IT world, and basically running a shop by my self this whole time, and 0 certifications. At the end of the day when you have been doing things not the right way, but the way that works for this long, it is hard to step up into a bigger team role with out being able to show on paper that you are serious or know anything. So I'm going to keep working on development during the day, and get off my ass and try to get my CCNA by night. (Own the books, done the studying, never took the test) Then have Scott move me to east coast to work at NTG, drink beer, and fade into the sunset.

Missed it by that much
I have a job I like, but I am wanting to move on to something bigger. I applied for a dream job, thought the interview went ok. I had amazing references, everything was looking great. Just got the call that they have chosen someone else. Is there an easy way to pick your self up and go back to the drawing board?
