@sreekumarpg There is allways the good old Spiceworks Helpdesk. Not open source, but "free" by way of adds.

RE: This is Why People Leave LogMeIn
We left LMI in 2013 or 2014 (can't remember) because we were in the same boat. They more than doubled the price, and said take or leave it. So we left for other options.

My daughter is now switching to RollApp for doing her KTurtle! This is awesome.
Of all the Apps, I would have never guessed KTurtle would be the one you were excited about. My daughter is only 7 weeks old, so I will have to get her on Turtle in a few months.

RE: Just found RollApp
Right, I just saved a couple files directly to Google Drive, and I am on the free version.

Just found RollApp
I was thumbing around here this morning, and after clicking a few links, I stumbled across RollApp. It is in browser, cloud based, opensource aplications. ( I think I got the buzz words right) Either way, this is the best free tool to have in the belt I have seen in a long time. I just wanted to share.

RE: Crashing Macs
Most instability issues I have stem from waking out of sleep mode while using a external monitor, mouse, and keyboard. I time to time have to unhook them and use the onboard keyboard to log in. I am not using any AV however, so that may be your issue. Is the mac virus threat real enough to warrent needing AV?

RE: When the World is Your Oyster
I enjoyed it. Also I am buying a van to park downtown, and charge to dispense basic information just to screw with tourists.

RE: Homeschooling in the Tech Community
Is there a major downside to homeschooling? I know everyone always goes on about the social aspect, and it is clear that that can be solved. Do you find there is anything else missing in the homeschool environment?

RE: Homeschooling in the Tech Community
@Minion-Queen I am sure a little bit of time on ye ol' Google would serve me better. I was just looking for big picture overview. You have put this in my queue of possible ways to educate my daughter, as before I had not even considered it. She is 5 weeks old at this point, so I have plenty of time.

RE: Homeschooling in the Tech Community
I'm not super excited about the local school system here. I am excited about the chance to put my daughter though the local private school that is one of the top rated schools in the nation, but it comes with a massive....massive price. I haven't really considered home schooling. I see there are a few people who do it, how does it work? what is the day in the life of the home schooled? Does the parent just buy the books, teach, then administer tests? Does the state get involved?

RE: Bread and Milk Alert in Arkansas
SW Missouri here. I confirm, snow on the ground Milk and bread gone from store shelves. It is nice not having to walk more than 2 feet into any store with out a huge pile of snow melt and shovels for sale.

RE: Do Apple Products "Just Need More Work"?
That is pretty much the setup I have here. and I have the exact same feelings. That is why I mentioned the VM Fusion piece. There are the occasional things that I prefer doing in other OS's. Being able to 3 finger swipe to change to Windows 7 or Ubuntu with the same underlying file structure means I may never look back at this point.
I had an issue a few weeks back on another MacBook. When Apple support told me to reinstall the OS to troubleshoot, I cringed. Then they explained that reinstalling the OS in the Mac world doesn't touch your files or settings, and is a automated process that just takes about an hour. I even had a VM open. The system paused it, downloaded the OS, rebooted, installed it, and after log in resumed the VM. I couldn't tell the difference and I was floored.
I think these Mac guys may be on to something, just don't tell them I admitted it.

@scottalanmiller So I have been meaning to ask you.. How do you like the Mac environment now that you have had a chance to play with it?
