@rojoloco My company does it the same way your company does. One person collects the money and goes a buys tickets. Your GF company's way is just dumb.

    • Career Goals - Futures in Linux Careers

I really don't have any career goals in life. I'm a SysAdmin which I am pretty happy with. Like the job and the company. No complaints there (in case the boss is looking <sssshhh>). I have always known that I wanted to work in computers coming out of high school. Went into college and I was able to cross out a few choices, such as software development and web design. I had considered networking because I wanted something that challenged both my brain and my body. Well, my brain gets challenged, but not so much my body anymore.

As of right now, I have been exposed to a variety of technologies (Hyper-V, VMware ESXi/vSphere, PowerShell, PowerCLI, Veeam B&R/ONE, basic networking technologies [routers, switches], and a little bit of everything in between). However, I am a little bit of a control freak. While I know that nobody can exactly predict the future, I do believe that we can tell where we are going from where we have been. While I like my job, I want to be challenged more and exposed to even more technologies, such as networking routing and switching, and VoIP. I especially want to focus my efforts to Linux servers, pushing more towards Fedora server (no real reason of my own). I see that there is KVM and LXD and Kubernetes and OpenNAP. Still not totally interested in DevOps, but don't mind automation (such as CHEF or Terraform) in order to increase efficiencies.

So, after that BIG long spiel, where does the major contenders on ML see Linux being in 5 years? That is where I would like to be.

@dustinb3403 Basically, yes. But the snipping tool would open a new email and attach the picture to the email before you put addresses in it and send it out.

@momurda Shoot. I wish it would give me the option to share it by Outlook, but it is die hard wanting me to use their Mail app.

    • Troubles installing PowerCLI

I was having troubles installing PowerCLI last week. Normally, you would install PowerCLI by:

      1. Adding the PowerShell Galary as a repository (unless you have already done this).
      2. Run "Install-Module VMware.PowerCLI";
      3. Set your execution policy to RemoteSigned (unless you have already done this).

However, Microsoft and their infinite wisdom decided to name their commands the same thing. When PowerShell goes to bring in the commands, it skips over commands that it already has in its module libraries. In order to get around this problem, you have to add on the AllowClobber parameter.

So, line 2 should read "Install-Module VMware.PowerCLI -AllowClobber" before you are able to connect to either a vSphere or a vCenter server.

Yes, the datacenter is fully redundant UPS and generators. And also on internet connections, network infrastructure, cooling etc. Good point though!

After some thought, this is what I'm thinking on cabling.

      • First remove cable management so no space is unused.
      • Place and connect servers from the top down. Should be easier to add equipment that way.
      • Make a bundle for each switch and use colors for it.
      • Wire the nodes from each side and let the power cables also go to each side. I don't know if the racks have PDUs on each side though.

Are the switches logically stacked together? If so, don't forget to distribute your connections between the servers across both switches for added redundancy. Otherwise, looks good to me, as far as the hardware layout goes.

Nope, doctor doctor. He removed the baby making bits because I shouldn't have been conceived, gone to term, or survived being born. How's that for an existential crisis?

Is that too much to ask from the POTUS?!

You're right. That is a 2-way street. He needs to hold his position with respect, and so do we. Trump will have to answer to his maker (whoever you believe that may be).

He was not born, he was engineered by combining the genes of Joel Osteens family and a collection of random Jerry springer guests from the 90's.
