@NerdyDad I don't put a lot of stock into this, because I've heard that the magnetic field is supposed flip before, and when that happens, its supposed to create another life-ending event on earth. Sounds more like tin-foil hat theory to me but wanted you to get a read on it before I construed my opinion on it first.
someone missed the date....
Okay. They got one on me.

Scientists Predict Massive Ionosphere Inversion
Chandra, Arizona, USA. - A team of scientists at the Chandra Dark Energy Observatory (CDEO) has shocked the physics world with a warning that Earth will soon undergo a severe ionospheric inversion. According to their paper based on data gathered over the past year, they predict that our solar system will "pass through the Orion arm of the central galactic disk of dark matter". As earth traverses the sterile neutrino field at exactly 03:14 UTC on Monday, 01 April 2019, the normal right-handed chirality will abruptly swing oppositely to left-handed spin. According to the paper, this polarity reversal will induce non-solar ion-like effects (NSILEs) into earth's magnetosphere, causing the F-layers and D-layers to reverse position.

RE: Weekend Plans
Installed Debian 9 Linux on a few computers for some old men in the ham club Saturday morning. Afternoon, just chilled. Evening was a Daddy-daughter dance, but it just wasn't her scene, so we went to McDonald's for dinner.
Sunday was play on the radio in the afternoon and then IT maintenance window.

New Huawei phone has a 5x optical zoom, thanks to a periscope lens
How do you cram a 5x zoom into the P30 Pro? Just turn the whole assembly sideways!
Huawei officially announced the Huawei P30 Pro smartphone today. While it has a new Huawei-made SoC, an in-screen optical fingerprint reader, and lots of other high-end features, the highlight is definitely the camera's optical zoom, which is up to a whopping 5x. Not digital zoom. Real, optical zoom.

βLong-term security risksβ from Huawei
The Chinese company Huawei has been strongly criticised in a report by the body overseeing the security of its products in UK telecoms.
The report, issued by the National Cyber Security Centre, which is part of GCHQ, says it can provide "only limited assurance that the long-term security risks can be managed in the Huawei equipment currently deployed in the UK".
The report reflects what are said to be deep frustrations at the failure of the company to address previously identified problems.
I'm so conflicted (not really). Are they a good company or not? Depends on the market their in, ex network gear versus consumer gear? Or is it a blanket concern with whatever Huawei slaps their logo on?

Put a RouterBoardOS RB260GS at each house and use a free ddns service. $35each and yo're done.
Or a Ubiquiti Edge Router Lite will work too, just more expensive.
I use the Ubiquiti ERL for IPSec into my house from the office, my phone, and my laptop. Love it.All more work and more money than easy and free.
Easy is relative. $70 for the two is only $10 more than he is currently paying for one year. Starting with month 15, it is free!
$70 for what you are proposing with more hardware and equipment that could fail and I have to maintain in my house that my wife won't like because its more "junk" versus ZeroTier which is free, software only, and my wife won't have to see it.
Hmmm....Decisions, decisions.

@NerdyDad VNC should have the option to forward audio as well. Might be in the server or client setting tho, it's been a long time since I had a reason to go look at that.
I didn't see it in VNC, but maybe I am using the wrong VNC server (TightVNC vs UltraVNC). Can you send me some more information?
I also found crtmpserver that streams audio both ways and to Android devices. Maybe it will work instead? How hard would it be to setup?

RE: Trading a VPN for an SSH Tunnel
So, I went to ZeroTier and created myself a free account, created a network, and downloaded a client for my Windows 10 PC, the android app, and installed it on my Debian 9 Linux desktop. Authorized 3 clients onto the network. The network is private, so has to be authorized from the ZeroTier console before allowing communication between the device and the rest of the network.
Once I had 3 devices connected, I began testing communication between devices.
From Windows 10 to Debian 9:
via SSH
via VNC
So, I am able to remote into the computer by both SSH and VNC. However, I am not able to talk on the radio and hear what I receive while I am out and about. This is my next dilemma. How do I have the two-way audio between the ham-shack box and myself when I'm out and about?

SPRINT SUCKS!!!!
<RANT>
Just spent over an hour dealing with them just to get data working on my phone again. Their customer support and technical support sucks big time. It takes going to twitter just to get something to working again. They never believe the customer, and their towers "Never" go down. Its always the subscribers device. I can go to my house and not have a problem on a Sprint tower. You talk to their customer service, work with you a little bit, then refer you to technical support by either chat on their website or phone call. Chat wants you to take them the device. It doesn't make sense on it being my device when it works at one place by not another. Calling their technical support wants to troubleshoot the device.
I had to go to Twitter to get it fixed, and then it STILL took forever.
</RANT>
So what was the fix?
On an LG V40, go to:
- Settings
- General Tab
- System Updates
- Update Profile - Wait for it to do its update, just keep it awake.
- Go to your phone app
- Dial ##72786# and it will reset the PRI then reboot.
But that's so easy, doesn't everyone know the command codes for your phone? /sarcasm
Its easier just to switch carriers and let Sprint wonder why all of their customers are leaving. But this is actually the issue of the 4 big carriers. They have no incentive to change their ways to better their subscribers. Its all about their profit. No reason for them to change.
