RE: Linux file system hierarchy
If I may weigh in on on the matter, I think when you allow yourself to think from only the American bubble mentality, you tend to think the world is wrong when things aren't said and done the way America do it.
The truth of the matter is there were expressions before there were true pronunciation of any words. All words have evolved over time and to be frustrated about how a world sounds is just Fudiculous (my way of saying Fk'n ridiculous). A lot of people tends to get frustrated when the world don't share such passionate nostalgia about life as they do. It's funny how the youth wants to just live life while the older generation would like to slow time down or have it to be stuck in an era that makes their heart swell. However, both mentalities are well needed. The youth brings fun to life as the elders bring wisdom.
You see, whether you care to believe it or not, like people, words and phrases have nicknames as well. Some people will choose to say "Hello, how are you today" while someone else will choose to say "w'sup". Just because the phrases are different doesn't mean that they aren't the same. With that being said, just because one may have been a professor doesn't mean LIFE gave them the authority to authorize how a word should evolve. How wise can one be to avoid the fact that culture as well as race has an effect on how words evolve? A wise man said, those who protest change in life are either lazy and or have no strength to keep up with life. Who's to say that etc wasn't another world prior to it being excepted as et cetera for most of the world?
I think I may have a lil (another way of saying "little") insight as to where the pronunciation etsee come from. I'm here watching some tutorials, time frame 2004, from CBT Nuggets on linux and they are saying etsee all over the place in the video. Which tells me that the CBT Nuggets help breath the term into existance via videos.
On one hand I think it's beautiful how @tonyshowoff is passionate about his era, but disappointed that someone of his intelligence isn't excepting that fact that each generation customize life the way they see fit for comfort with words, beliefs and music. We should appreciate our own eras as well as share the beauty of it. However, we shouldn't discourage the new generation how to customize their era just because it's not what we are use to. Hence, having the strength to keep up with life.
Sorry for the lil journal. In conclusion...we should all learn how to except others and new generations as they are and avoid forcing our own standards on them. -

Adobe showing no love for Linux any more!
I'm trying to update my flashplayer in Centos, but having some problems. Nevertheless, I stumbled upon this note. How many of you knew this:
NOTE: Adobe Flash Player 11.2 will be the last version to target Linux as a supported platform. Adobe will continue to provide security backports to Flash Player 11.2 for Linux. If you don't know now you know (censored)!

RE: Hello, I'm the IT and software equivalent of the Merv Griffin Show

@MrWright4hire No, sorry, I don't. I got mostly acquainted with MySQL prior to YouTube and so forth. I still watch some stuff related to highly scalable stuff every now and again, though the kind of stuff I've done sometimes goes beyond even the hypothetical environments in the videos, unless the video is about Facebook or something that big. My suggestion though if you just want some basic information about it, MySQL's web site actually does have a lot of information, and in addition to that, the stackoverflow.com tag for MySQL is good, and there are tons of other tutorials out there.
Getting the base information is fairly straight forward, getting good information on storage engines, indices, proper queries, etc (something you should worry about once you're familiar with SQL itself) is in the manual, but usually there is sort of vague and hard to understand, so it'll take some searching. There may be videos about this stuff, but again I don't know, maybe go to Google Video and search MySQL and change your search options for videos 20+ minutes, that way you know they're detailed.
On my blog I also write articles about MySQL and MySQL-related projects from time to time, and I suggest you check out the ones involving case sensitivity and also unicode storage.
Thanks Tony! I'll check those links out.

I was asking cause I don't know much about it. worked on it a while back, but now...no go. You know any great video tutorials on the matter?

That's a great question. A question I will present once I go in for the interview. Any other questions on this matter should I ask to avoid the rolling eye scenario? lol! I would like to be armed and ready to ask the appropriate questions to be able to lock down the direct steps needed to get the job done on time, with in budget and with less down time.
Well given that you will be interviewing in this case, I'll propose some ideas based on some assumptions that could be way off base.
They probably want to go to a completely "hosted" model. The most common approach here, still today, is colocation and VPN. NTG does this. We colocate enterprise servers (one of our datacenters is in Mississauga near you) that we then run VMware vSphere on and virtualize all of our servers. We then add an enterprise VPN (we used to use IPSec, then OpenVPN and finally settled on Pertino) that connects every user into the "hosted network."
With this model, we use traditional computing like Active Directory, SMB drive shares, RDP and any other LAN protocol and it all works right over the Pertino VPN network. We are able to manage our network like a traditional LAN while not being in a single office and having no on premises servers.
Are you saying that NTG provides or use this service? If it provide this IT service, why would I suggest yall? That's taking food off my table. lol! However, it it uses this service then your scenario would be a great foundation to learn from. I have to see how many employees there are. To gage how big their system may be. It's my understanding that they even have a sister company in Toronto. It's an Wine company. Holidays should be nice around there...cheers! lol!

the killer for us was network speed. Cost of getting a "real" internet connection (100/100 fiber) vs continuing to bandaid our infrastructure was too high. Not the way I would like to have gone, but $0.02 for you.
That's a valuable point Matt. Even with vmware. The though of having less hardware is awesome until you have to give up some speed. I need to know if they intend to have 3rd party cloud or a cloud onsite. I would think a cloud onsite would be better. I don't trust 3rd party clouds too strong.

I may start working for a company that is interested in migrating their whole network to the clouds. If so, I would like to be proactive in being ready for such a task. Do any of you have any ideas? What are the good, the bad and the ugly for this move?

With that being said, should I try to delete the files that I extracted from the vmware disc that I mounted? Will it cause any problems having extra vmware folder in /tmp.
Just wastes space. Just delete everything from /tmp. Many systems, like Solaris, mount /tmp into memory so that it is automatically flushed after every reboot. Many other systems use a cron job to blow away /tmp when it is on disk on a routine basis so that it doesn't collect dust.
Will do! Thanks again for the feed back.

RE: The Dangerous Delusions of the Blackberry Fan
I live just down the road from the BB company. That's what you get when you try to hoard what you deem as top of the line technology. Someone is always out there hustling to be better then you. Most times thinking your too good to use other ideas can put you in last place. Now they have to play catch up.
I heard they are trying to team up with Samsung. Now that sounds interesting. -
RE: What is your greatest weakness?
I'm in the same boat as the girl in the interview. However, I don't think my honesty is my weakness. My honesty only weed out those who can't handle the truth. In turn, points out those who are ok with living their life as a lie. I have my few friends I do have trained not to come to me with there problems if they don't really want to know the truth.
My girlfriend to this day, after x amount of years still have a problem with me being honest.
I may get myself in trouble saying this, but MOST woman likes their truth sugar coated. I don't have time to add sugar. If we are in danger, I don't have time to say...dear please duck. I'm going to say PUT YOUR DAYUM HEAD DOWN!! lol! As for the booty comment. Someone was right about that it's a cultural thing. Society are just now catching up with the African American community. We've always thought a big butt looks nice. As long as it don't continue to shake after you have stopped walking for 5mins. It can even have a couple of dimples. Butt, excuse the pun, if it has more dimples then the moon...it's an issue.
Now, if you must know, the rule of thumb for any female booty is:
No matter big or small, if it looks like an upside down heart you have a winner! If she's baggy in thongs, she may still be under age or God is punishing her. lol!
If a guy has that heart look...well lets just say he best not go to prison.I'm Mr. Wright, that's my view on Butt-ology and I'm out!
