I ask because I do not know who you are. If you're currently working for a company who does what you intend to do, you could use that as a launch point. Jared's numbers look good to me! but who am i.
Thank you for clarifying that Hubtech. I see your point. Now to answer who you are, I consider anyone associated with this site as someone special and with great knowledge. That's why I come to you as if you're my tech family, likewise if I have the knowledge about something I share it. Once again Hubtech, my new special friend, thank you for your suggestion.

I never give anyone less than $120 for a one time job.
If a client signs a consulting agreement for more long term support I will cut the they rate based on the hours I expect to average from them. I still never go under $90.
Thank you Jared for your feed back. I agree with both of you gentlemen.

Who are you? what is your experience level? Where are you? I'd think more around 125-150/hr depending on your answer to those questions. if you're note sure of the environment you'll be migrating from....it could be a nightmare
Hello Hubtech. Without hearing your tone, your reply started off a bit condescending. However, to answer your question, I am who I say I am. My name is listed under my pic. I'm Mr. Wright. My level of experience is 8yrs deep and growing. I'm asking about prices because I'm starting off new with my own contracting company. I've always worked for someone else and never had to worry about coming up with pricing. With that said, I don't see how asking "who am I" is relevant. Now experience level and my location I understand. I don't care if I was Mighty Mouse. As long as I have the experience it shouldn't matter. This site, from what I understood, is to help aid others without making them feel more ignorant than what they are. If you find any of my questions insulting to your tech intelligence then, by all means, click away.
Now speaking to the part that actually answer my question, thank you. -

@thecreativeone91
I agree, but how much would you charge per hour? I'm thinking $80. -
What should I charge to help assist a Network Crossover?
A company bought out another company and I was asked to assist in doing a Network Crossover that involves:
testing networks, server AD Migration...etc!
What do you think is reasonable to assist. I don't want to come off asking for too much, but at the same time I don't want to cut myself either. Any help would be appreciated.Thank you in advance, |

RE: Office 365 & Exchange Online
@thecreativeone91 and @scottalanmiller they probably had it still up for a back up measure. That's the only thing I can think of as of now. With that said, I agree with you @thecreativeone91 about how the instance.
How would you approach this matter. I would like to move with precision as well as be organized about what order I should take certain steps. I would like to keep my impeccable reputation with this client. lol!

Office 365 & Exchange Online
I'm about to take on a challange for an old client of mine. He explained his network scenario to me and to be proactive I would like to get my Mentors input on how I should approach this scenario. I told him to get someone for a faster result, but he insist on giving me his business. I'm honored, but need to refresh on my Exchange knowledge.
Can or would anyone like to help me?Here is the scenario:
No one can share their Calendar properly. They are all using
Office 365 via Outlook. Getting "Auto-Discovery Error," but
diagnostics shows that Auto Discovery is working properly.
N.B.: As a temporary fix, I've recommended that they use the
Web version of the Calendar, instead of using it in Outlook.Additionally, they continue to use their local Exchange
2007 Svr to create new email address (to forward and relay emails
to and from the Cloud). Client wants to know if there's
another way for them to do this or if they will always need to
use that local Exchange Svr. -

I would skip that stuff and just edit the files. It's pretty easy.
You're my Mr. Miyagi! Help me wax on and wax off. How do one go by editing by hand?

You need to start over. Your Bob and their bob are not similar. They have different names and everything.
You need to great a user named bob, a group named projectX and a folder named bob. You can do this side by side with what you currently have since Bob and bob are unrelated as users, groups or files.
Once you create the right user, group and folder you use the chown command to change the user owner of a file and chgrp to change the group owner of a file. (There is a shortcut for this that I am not providing for reasons of clarity.)
So once everything exists you would use...
chown bob bob chgrp projectX bob
To make the folder named "bob" belong to the user bob and the group projectX.
Thank you so much Big brotha! I got it to be how I want it. I'll keep in mind about the Capitalization. I got rid of Bob with userdel -r Bob and added useradd bob.
Nevertheless, I'm good now. Thank you again for inspiring me again. -

As a point of good practice, things like usernames, groups, and generally files, should be all lowercase. This is not Windows and sloppiness does not work out well. There is no need to capitals and it will make your life a nightmare. Bob and bob are two different things.
Gotchu! So can you walk me through how to make my Bob, in exhibit 2 match the bob in exhibit 1? I'm going crazy now. lol!

RE: I need help installing vmware tools for Centos!
Here you go Scott:
You see how bob has projectX by his name in the first exhibit. I want to make it like that.

Hello Mango fam. I need a lil help with linux command. The issue is that I added a group and added users that group, but when I use "ls -l" I don't see the group listed by the users name. When I go into each individual user directory I don't see the group that I assign them to. However, when I do cat /etc/group I see the group and the members I assigned.
Why can I not see them when I'm in the user dir, home dir and use "ls -l"? -

RE: Linux file system hierarchy
If I may weigh in on on the matter, I think when you allow yourself to think from only the American bubble mentality, you tend to think the world is wrong when things aren't said and done the way America do it.
The truth of the matter is there were expressions before there were true pronunciation of any words. All words have evolved over time and to be frustrated about how a world sounds is just Fudiculous (my way of saying Fk'n ridiculous). A lot of people tends to get frustrated when the world don't share such passionate nostalgia about life as they do. It's funny how the youth wants to just live life while the older generation would like to slow time down or have it to be stuck in an era that makes their heart swell. However, both mentalities are well needed. The youth brings fun to life as the elders bring wisdom.
You see, whether you care to believe it or not, like people, words and phrases have nicknames as well. Some people will choose to say "Hello, how are you today" while someone else will choose to say "w'sup". Just because the phrases are different doesn't mean that they aren't the same. With that being said, just because one may have been a professor doesn't mean LIFE gave them the authority to authorize how a word should evolve. How wise can one be to avoid the fact that culture as well as race has an effect on how words evolve? A wise man said, those who protest change in life are either lazy and or have no strength to keep up with life. Who's to say that etc wasn't another world prior to it being excepted as et cetera for most of the world?
I think I may have a lil (another way of saying "little") insight as to where the pronunciation etsee come from. I'm here watching some tutorials, time frame 2004, from CBT Nuggets on linux and they are saying etsee all over the place in the video. Which tells me that the CBT Nuggets help breath the term into existance via videos.
On one hand I think it's beautiful how @tonyshowoff is passionate about his era, but disappointed that someone of his intelligence isn't excepting that fact that each generation customize life the way they see fit for comfort with words, beliefs and music. We should appreciate our own eras as well as share the beauty of it. However, we shouldn't discourage the new generation how to customize their era just because it's not what we are use to. Hence, having the strength to keep up with life.
Sorry for the lil journal. In conclusion...we should all learn how to except others and new generations as they are and avoid forcing our own standards on them.
