Cappuccino and news, starting off the day.

Speaking of news I will NOT be at SW this year, say hi to the other Monkeys for me!

Will do. Sorry that we won't be seeing you. Maybe the next ML event!!

Of course, show some love to the Houston peeps; or a short drive to Dallas either way.

You should have come on your own! Damn the torpedos! Full speed ahead!

Haha I was thinking about it, but I only do IT on the side (home/test stuff) so everyone would be like "Whyyyy is Matt (purchasing) following us to the IT conference"?

So come as an IT Pro and not as a GG. You'll make your money back (not now but six months ago) on the ticket price in swag, easily!

Haha I cannot unfortunately, what happens when someone needs a bunch of equipment we don't have in stock?! Or a customer replacement of a 10-year old IBM harddrive with specific firmware that hasen't been seen since the Apple II era?

These are the reasons I have to be on post here at the Monkey. 🙂

Don't you hate it when you're the last to know...:P

How about a bidding war? I'll do $50k remote from Houston. Signed, sealed, delivered. 😜

I'll match that! But from Dallas!

Haha you can have it, I'll stick to procurement; rather not throw away 7yrs of experience moving into an IT admin position in all reality.

EDIT: If you need a remote supply chain guy... 😛

@thecreativeone91 @scottalanmiller I agree to both of ya's, I think there's going to be some real interesting things happening once we break through 11nm process. Things are already getting a little weird with 10Tb HDD and 12-core cpu's, efficiency is going to be key.

I was $65K fifteen years ago.

      I would take $60k 😉

      Seconded. 😉

I think the chip manufacturers are going to come out with some really cool things in the next few years with different architecture and designs. Good read!

Just this morning our Production server making loud noise and when i checked Fan of server its not working. Any moment i am sure it will shutdown again..
I haven't encountered this problem before.
Have you encountered this before? If yes, how did you manage to resolve the problem?
Except from replacing the Fan is there any basic troubleshooting that you can advise?
      Thanks 😞 😞

What model? Can you jot down the iLo report?

@scottalanmiller I agree, it just goes to show how important proactive and layered security is. I'm always a fan of the occasional NIFO, because well... tinfoil hat.

Those who are truly dangerous generally don't get caught.

      Now I'm scared. Hug me.

    • That's gonna hurt...

A band of hackers for hire have raided some 300 banks, corporations and governments undetected for 12 years, possibly the longest campaign of its kind. The German hackers registered 800 front businesses in the UK to target and fully compromise organisations in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria at the request of customers. Elite Cyber Solutions chief executive Jonathan Gad said the damage done to companies since the attacks began in 2002 was "immeasurable".

@MattKing I've seen a lot of newer Harddrive cirucits and even some PCI cards coated over with Clear coating, It's called conformal coating and it covers all the comments leads so there is little chance of ESD shock with them.

That's really interesting I'll have to look into that. I wonder if it's becoming more of an industry standard or just some OEM's.

This is probably a bad time to point out that I went out drinking with SAM for about 12 hours, left his at 6am and still made work (albeit an hour late) but I did let them know in advance.

I hadn't slept soundly in months. My body finally burned out and shut down. It felt wonderful.

Sometimes your body just goes into f*ck-it-sleep mode. I've had that happen a few times in the past man, hopefully you're back in step! 🙂

I've actually been waking up more normally. For the longest time, I wake up as alert as I was at noon the day before. It's the weirdest feeling. The problem is that it was never passing. I wasn't sleeping as my body was never shutting down. Finally, it did just basically say f*ck it, I'm going to sleep. Not much I can do about that.

I've had that happen before. For me it was caffeine after 5-6pm and not drinking or playing on electronics after 10pm made me get back in sync. The electronics thing was hard, but i started waking up earlier naturally (5-6am) and just moved work to the morning.
