I've got no need for anything else. Guess I could use it to sample elastix to them and sell a phone system.

Any of you have any HylaFax installs out there independent of freepbx or elastix? Gonna be playing with this for a client and wanted to get a little insider info before diving in.

I'm a hybrid maybe????
Started college, hated it. Got a job interning with NASA (no helpdesk) IT Security(title only). Moved to a 2 man in house medical facility with 800 or so users. did helpdesk, server admin, form printing, ms office help, etc. we did everything, then jumped into SMB consulting with a big MSP, and decided I wanted to be self employed......here we are now. so yeah, no help desk, little bit of college. and I'm happy with my pay

Well, if that's their attitude....good luck. Of course we/they/everyone wants it to just work. But if they want it to "always work" that takes a good bit of work/planning/etc IMO easiest of which would be Virtualization either locally with colocation for DR or a pure virtual "cloud" fix. not knowing what the business is, application load etc makes it a little tough to recommend anything specific.

not sure why you couldn't P2V. if flat files are being stored on the nas... easy peasy, move to whatever VM it belongs to post p2v. yes, down time will be required. Do it over the weekend, or over night.

@whizzard are you a consultant on this project or in house?
Expectations need to be discovered and defined before you can propose any sort of solution for them.

I've got an 11 F150 Super Crew Ecoboost (love it). Wife has a 13 Explorer Limited (love it for different reasons). Don't know what is next for me, but i'll be getting something newer soon.

Though segmented and long winded...
Scott is right. You need to establish the need for a backup. I'd use the drobo for a backup target. consolidate the other server functions on your actual server hardware using a hypervisor. ESXi, Hyper-V, XenServer etc... whatever flavor you like.

awesome! and easy to test out on a live system
thanks JB i'll give that a go. -

Have any of you made the transition? I'm about to give it a shot and wanted to know if anyone had any advice or knew what caveats to avoid?

RE: How do you bill for time spent Researching and Project Management?posted in IT Business
and i'm doing research FOR this company. the dialog was essentially "we're not IT, dont claim to be, dont want to be. We need to fill these voids in our business, can you help us, etc..."
So I've been talking to D and will more than likely just say we will spend x hours researching software, transferring knowledge to client, make recommendation etc and then once a course is picked, provide another proposal for the labor.
