Ok, I just logged into two BDR boxes at customer sites, and I was able to login to the main file servers (one 2012r2, the other 2016) at both locations with domain admin credentials with no domain name. Neither BDR box is a member of the domain. Maybe this has been this way for a while and I haven't noticed?

I just setup a Windows 2016 server as DC & File server to do a demo for a customer. In the process I was setting up a few shares and noticed that from Windows or Mac I was able to authenticate with the server with just a username instead of DOMAIN\username. If said server is running as DC, shouldn't the domain name be required for authentication?

Took 20 mins on the phone with Microsoft but the licenses includes with MAPS does not qualify.

So I have azure credits as a part of my action pack subscription & I noticed on Azure you can get an addiontal 40% discount (seems new) if you use your own server licensing. Can I use my internal use rights Windows Server licenses for that additional discount?

I have a lot more I could say but I feel it wouldn't be advantageous. This thread was initially about choosing between two laptops. It's severely lost it's course.

@DustinB3403 What stance am I defending? That maybe some people prefer different operating systems because the tools they need to use are easily accessible? You were the one who claimed I was wrong without providing any source of proof. Go to NAB - see how many of them are running Ubuntu or Mint. Talk to people who work in post production. Go on the video editing forums. I've been part of providing production/post production work flows - from the black magic design video mixers to the servers running the batch video transcoding.

@stacksofplates Of course there are examples where certain apps run on Linux. That doesn't need to be said. Which accounting software are you referring to BTW?

@DustinB3403 Dude...I've been using Ubuntu through this entire thread. Instead of saying Linux...I'll just say ALL the operating systems that run on the Linux Kernel.

@DustinB3403 I'm not saying that no professional has ever used open source software to cut video - I'm saying that no organization that specializes in video editing/production is running anything other than the following:
Avid, PP CC, Final Cut 7 or X, or Davinci Resolve, Edius, or Sony Vegas (very few..more consumer based.)

@scottalanmiller My point is that linux isn't for everyone. Neither is OSX. Neither is Windows. You seem to be arguing that most people could or should be running Linux. My problem with Linux is that it's very limited to common apps that people use on a day to day basis - for example - iTunes.

That request was from 2012...it's 2017 and they still haven't implemented it. As much as I hate QuickBooks Xero is far behind.

@scottalanmiller What open source accounting software do you run? Will it tie in with my PSA solution like QuickBooks does?

@scottalanmiller You have Premiere Pro CC on Linux? What about Illustrator? Photoshop? That's what everyone uses...at least professionally. I haven't met a single professional running open source software to do video editing. Never.

@scottalanmiller Since I'm a one man show I'm guessing I handle a bigger variety of tasks than you do working for someone else. I handle graphic design/marketing/accounting/etc. All of these types of Apps - guess what - don't run on Linux.
