If we just upgraded 1 drive a month from 7200 RPM (4 disk RAID 5) to 10K drives and let it rebuild it would be so much faster....
What the literal [moderated]!

I'm currently playing Warframe, Minecraft (FTB self hosted server) , Diablo 3, and occasionally GTA 5.
I just started Warframe Saturday and it's pretty addictive, still figuring everything out about it, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a High-paced 3rd person shooter.
I'd rather the US senate work on paving my roads and repairing the bridges then grilling Apple of their product design.
Such a waste of resources for this.
Sorry people, you want a 3 year old phone that will last all day, or be blazing fast and last for 30 minutes?
So this isn't a rant with regards to this post here. It's a question as to why is VMWare often considered as the "only" option and everything else (Hyper-V XenServer KVM) aren't considered as viable options.
Is it not common knowledge that there is more than a single product out there. In the link, the OP as a super tiny infrastructure, and needs advice on choosing a Hypervisor.
Most of the comments are "choose the essentials plan" which to me seems insane for the scale of the build. A single host with 2 VMs. The cost according to ESXi for the plan required for this would cost the guy $1900 as he says. Essentials plus I believe is ~$500.
Every other hypervisor cost 0, and it not limited in functionality. Even ESXi Essentials (or Plus) is still a gimped system. That is limited with either hardware restrictions or limited software capabilities. So why do so many people keep trying to push something that offers less for way more money?
It's completely irrational.
Snipe-IT 4.7.2 has released, and while there are some interesting changes there is also a bug that doesn't allow any assets to be checked out.
Don't update at this time.
Porting this thread here
To summarize the OP @PRPL is still new to his organization, a server failed and now the powers that be want to go virtual.
The budget provided is $1200 - 1400.
Obviously the same inclusions apply here as anyone else, no downtime during migration. What kind of work schedule does this business have?
Without getting into the argument of, budget issues etc what would the community recommend?
But Scott (2*6)*12 is 144 you can't argue with his math....
So the boss has offered to send me out for XenServer training, and in looking at a few of the options from Citrix Education the training seems to cover basics first.
I'm sure there are some advanced courses as well.
Does it make sense to start with the basics to have that certification first, and then go on wards?
@dafyre Oh don't feel bad we had an employee leave a month ago, and IT is just now getting notified to close out the account.
Original article - I'm very excited to share these free ransomware decryptors, provided by the hardworking experts in the Avast Threat Labs. Eleven decryptors, to be exact, for several strains of the scourge.
Our decryptors are available for the following strains of ransomware:
Alcatraz Locker
Apocalypse
BadBlock
Bart
Crypt888
CrySiS
Globe
Legion
NoobCrypt
SZFLocker
TeslaCrypt
While decryptors aren't guaranteed to work in every unique situation, they are another valuable tool in your security arsenal. If the unfortunate need arises, I sincerely hope that we can help save the day. (That said, our security team is keeping these decryptors updated, as much as possible, as strains evolve.)
In addition to the decryptors, which can be downloaded here, our threat labs have also provided a detailed description of each of the ransomware strains the tools are designed to fight against. Knowledge is power.
If any of these tools have helped you, or if you have any feedback to provide us about the decryptors, we welcome it -- keep safe out there!

"BING THIS YOU BASTARDING THING!" - me, 20 mins ago.
Internet exploder has been raising my blood pressure for years now.
Do you have a reason for torturing yourself?
Currently waiting for a number of different transfers to happen.
Clean install and I needed to get mcafee installed. Pull up IE and try and enter an IP into the address bar. You too will be yelling at your monitor!
Isn't McAfee like putting on a condom after the fact?
You like to live dangerously I see...
And it's more like putting on a random used condom you found in the gutter before you go to town......
I was called a salesperson on SW today for providing guidance and information for Xen Orchestra, on a post where the OP asked for advice on how to backup his XenServer VMs.
And I followed it up with "you get the block level backup's for free except for the ~20 minutes to set it up, and still are able to have the file level backups in case you need that as well"
If that makes me a damn sales person where the hell is the paycheck?
I'd be fine working with the challenge, but not with cheapness.
If the cause of the not enough money is cheapness, I'd not want to work there.

Webroot is the jam.
I just use a disponsable, self-resetting VM for internet. No problem whatsoever.
Yeah I just throwaway entire datacenters when I need to have a clean internet browser.
