@magicmarker The same thing that is happening to all people that aren't there to simply buy into the marketing,
is forcing them out so only gullible people are left there or those that refuse to step on vendor toes.

Snipe-IT Admins and Users - Serial Number as a required unique field
In the current release of Snipe-IT the only item that is required to be unique is the Asset Tag field, this is a bit of a gotcha if you have lazy coworkers.
If your assets have serial numbers that are unique to your organization (all of mine are) you would assume that the serial number must be unique in your environment.
Apparently Snipe-IT doesn't check the serial number, so you can end up having duplicated Assets, that have the same serial number (and are thus the same device).
This is a big issue in my world as with lazy co-workers or just the ever round-about handling of devices as people come and go devices get added under a new asset tag, but have the same serials (obviously an issue if only 1 device has that serial number).
I created a github feature request to have Snipe add a flag to require serial numbers be unique to an organization (full company support would allow the flag to be set per company)
If you think serials must be unique, go and vote for the feature request.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
PS. I am not associated with ML, StarWinds or any other vendor. I'm a user of this community and an ex-member of the community that shall not be named.
Just posting that as a reminder to everyone.
Scott may get away with a lot of "stuff" for lack of a better word but that is because of life experience with @Minion-Queen and having a relationship built on trust.

I have tried this installer script at least half a dozen times over the last 2 years. Not once has it ever worked.
Today i try again and it doesnt work still. You're the first person to say that this hasn't worked for them, especially over such a length of time.
What distro are you trying this on?

RE: Nginx SSL Certification + Nextcloud +Guacamole
@wirestyle22 maybe as a redirect to HTTPS so that rather than hitting a dead service it sends it along to the appropriate place?

RE: What are necessary/worthy/affordable tools for SMB?
Just because a lot of the tools cost a small fortune doesn't mean there aren't better alternatives.
Zabbix to monitor everything is a great place to start.

RE: Non-IT News Thread
The fact that only 2 people voted against it shows more that congress cares about looking good than doing good.

VoIP Echo Cancellation Features - YeaLink
So in getting the newest version of the Yealink Device management Platform up and running (which includes encrypted credentials - SfB credentials of our users and conference rooms) I'm starting to finally look at all of the features that the phones actually support.
One of the big ones that keeps getting talked about by our users is to make sure that they aren't sending or hearing Echo's.
The options that appear to be enabled by default are CNG and ECHO, VAD is disabled. VAD is Voice Activity Detection and I'm curious to know if it would be helpful to have all 3 of these enabled, especially for conference phones.
I already have QoS enabled at the switches and firewalls specific for VoIP applications but I want to better improve the quality where I can.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
My biggest grievance with windows and powershell and AD is the need to run it from an elevated user. Rather than being able to elevate once I have powershell open.
It's irritating.

Mine still shows 13.0.6 as current
Me too.
Switch to the beta channel, switch back after upgrading
We roll out incrementally.
Seems some caching is biting some ppl, showing apps as not available while they are... going to app mgmt and disabling/enabling them fixes it. We have some other weird issues, seems like I should have asked here for you all to help test the RC's so we had a more stable end result
I honestly am curious why more software houses don't ask us to beta for them. . . Any time I make changes to my public GH I ask people here to test to make sure I'm not the only one seeing it "work".

This was posted on a data recovery group I am a member of. (this didn't happen to me, but it's worth a share)
*I just had a client bring in a Surface Pro for data recovery. She said she had just come from the Microsoft store where she took it because it was no longer powering on. The tech at the Microsoft store took the Surface, smacked it really hard on the back 15 times right in front of the client, and then tried to power it on. When it did not power on he handed it back to the client and told them 'looks like you are going to need data recovery'.
It's nice to know that Microsoft is using such high tech troubleshooting techniques.
Hopefully it made you laugh as much as it did me.*
Are you sure she didn't take it to Best Buy?! wtf . . .

@dbeato Except for printers. Beating them always works.
If it doesn't, you're not hitting it hard enough.

RE: Average Rate for Emergency Service
@mroth911 said in Average Rate for Emergency Service:
So heres what happened, My brother in law called me , asked me do I know what this file means.. It has a weird extension he said. I said I would have to see it He sent me a picture of it shortly after, He works for a company as it support he is the only one there for 90+ users. The virus Randsomwear Took out his Primary ad controller, Which nothing was really working anyways, cause the sync of profiles go corrupted the shama could not be imported to the secondary controller, user account not syncing with ad and all the data was corrupt. data happened to be on a backup hard drive that was in a image format.
Anyways I didn't know the network at all nor knew what was going on. My brother in law was maintaining a bandaid fix
So in the grand scheme here, none of this matters. This is the panic phase, it's when things went belly up. Now that you've already started work and put in substantial time you're going to have a damn hard time proving your rate and getting paid for your time at all.
Start at a number that you think is realistic from where they will talk you down from, might as well start at $300/hour and give them your reduced new customer rate of $150/hour.
Still way less than what your time is worth for the project from the sounds of it, but at least you're getting paid.
