@travisdh1 Ooooh. Why such a tough question on a Monday???

RE: Pi Hole
Installed it last night on a Fedora VM. Works really well. Should have done it a long time ago.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@travisdh1 started with virt-manager. Trying to get familiar with it.

RE: Pi Hole
@gjacobse @aaronstuder We sand bagged our house and my brother's down the street. It was very close but all is good. It was worth all the effort. Many others were not as lucky.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@EddieJennings I had all my music ripped as MP3 but re-ripped it a few years ago to FLAC. Took a while but I think it was worth the effort.

RE: Question about this fiber rack mount thing
Telcos normally install a 24 strand fiber to a building. It normally gets spliced into a larger cable. They usually will "activate" 2 fibers. Very common to see it done this way.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Just installed F30 from the net install image. It actually used the entire disk for the root partition on its own. That is a first...

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Fun day today. FreePBX appliance crashed today and the backup was corrupted. Tried most of the day to revive it. It appears the board died and took the drive with it. According to the documentation, I should have been able to restore the 13 backup to a new 14 install but it would not work. Had to rebuild from scratch. This time it is running as a VM in Hyper-V and there is a night/day difference in performance versus the appliance. I'm not an expert at these but it could have been worse. Only 27 extensions and 2 trunks.

RE: Intranet suggestions....
I was looking to do something similar and was steered towards a Wiki (mediawiki, dokuwiki) for local content.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@DustinB3403 I agree. I can't stand going through the audits. Every year there are different "rules" and they vary by examiner.

RE: VPN with no static public IP
@travisdh1 I know. I have the hardest time convincing people to just try something else. I use Xero and love it. I also used Wave for a while to become familiar with it.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Sitting at a sports bar with the wife as she is talking out loud about how many ads and pop-ups were on a site she was looking at. She turned to me and said "now I see why you have that ad blocker running at home (pihole) and it makes a huge difference"! At least she noticed.

Fedora VM Host
I've been using Hyper-V server for many years and need to set up a new Nextcloud instance on Fedora Server and I do not care to use VMWare. I have multiple instances of FS running in Hyper-V 2012/2016 with zero issues. This will be a new host so I was thinking about trying Fedora as the hypervisor for a Fedora VM as well as a Nginx reverse proxy. Does this seem logical or should I just stick with HV2016? I would be learning KVM as I go.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Set up a simple IVR last night on FreePBX. It was far easier than doing the same on a Cisco UCS.
-
RE: Fedora VM Host
@travisdh1 I have time to learn it and test before I put it in production. I know from research that KVM is a great solution but I have not tried it yet.
Edit: Also, I would probably find a cheap laptop for Fedora 28 and virt-manager as well. I have the new server to be used as the host machine. -
RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@dafyre I'm 99% sure they have 10 people using the sync client and syncing to the same folder at the same time. User error for sure.

RE: Fedora VM Host
@dafyre I may load it this evening on the server and give it a go. I plan on starting with a fresh net install of Fedora 28 Server. I have time to "mess" with it and then move the server to the colo.

Nextcloud replacing OneDrive
A friend has been using OneDrive for a couple of years for his business and with the MS outage on last week, they lost approx. 250,000 individual files. The files were found in recycle bins on multiple users accounts. All "deleted" at 130 am and of course MS blamed the customer. After many hours on the phone with MS, they were able to get most if it restored.
He is beyond frustrated and asked about replacing OneDrive with Nextcloud. Each one of his client jobs creates a folder with approx. 10Gb of data. Will Nextcloud handle this or should I steer him towards another solution? He wants to have 15 Tb of storage for his projected growth over the next 5 years and not have to worry about it until it is time for a new server. It fits the bill and requirements he needs going forward. I am looking for opinions on NC and larger files and folders.
