NextCloud alternate data location
Cannot seem to get an alternate data location to work in Nextcloud. I built a new Fedora (minimal) server VM in my lab. Attached a new vdisk to the vm for data. My main vm is 20 gb and the data is 127 gb. I realize this is irrelevant. I mounted the vdisk to the server as /ncdata
Again, using @JaredBusch guide (which has never failed to work using the default locations) to set up the new test system. I adjusted the selinux script to reflect the correct data location. I also edited the php.ini file to reflect it as well. Everything works except not being able to write to that /ncdata folder. I have changed the owner of that folder to apache and it is confirmed by issuing ls -la while in that folder. I can find tons of info on moving the data after install but it seems most users go with the defaults. What am I missing? I have been working on this for a while and started over a few times. Still no change in the end result. I am trying to follow "best practices" but struggling.

File sync and storage issue.
A friend has a company that uses Office 365 Bus Premium for the office suite/email. It is a small company (10 to 15 users). Email and the office apps are working fine. They have field technicians that use tools to collect air quality data. This data gets loaded onto laptops/tablets that are Windows 10 and they put them in a OneDrive folder that syncs back to their main office. This worked "ok" for a short while when they first started but now have outgrown the 1Tb limit on OneDrive. Another issue is the 2-way syncing. It cripples them at their office because the WAN connection stays saturated with bi-directional OneDrive syncing. I don't know how this got set up or who set it up but it is far from ideal. Also, last year, the main account was removed from the O365 and they lost all the data. It was recovered from a backup but MS was ultimately at fault (MS support tech owned up to it after reviewing the logs). Took almost an entire day just to figure out what happened and a while for MS to admit to anything.
They rely heavily on the syncing to get the data from the field to the office. The data ends up in a SQL db and generates reports. I would put file/folder syncing at the top of the priority list. Most of the field guys are using cellular to upload the data. 2-way syncs, again, are a huge problem due to bandwidth limitations.
I was giving them a demo of Nextcloud and it seems to be a good fit. One problem I can think of is the number of issues I read about regarding syncing in NC. They need to upgrade storage soon and it would be the perfect time to implement a better solution. They will definitely keep O365 for mail and apps but need a beefier storage solution. A pair of large Synology boxes would be better than what is being done now.... Thoughts?

@Grey I may need a Dallas plumber and carpet cleaner though...

RE: DNS A record
It had to be fixed by GoDaddy support. They cleared out the forwarder and all is well.
I need to look in to Cloudfare. -
RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@EddieJennings Just installed F32 on an nvme drive. That thing is fast!

RE: Onlyoffice vs Collabora in Nextcloud
@hellonadya I have it installed and running now. Working on connecting to NC.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@scottalanmiller @JaredBusch I went ahead and set up a Zoho account. It was very easy and it even built the DNS records on the registrar. Only needed 2 email accounts. $24 plus tax for a year. Been using the ISP provided email for 20+ years, and I don't even have them for a provider anymore.

RE: Onlyoffice vs Collabora in Nextcloud
Decided to go with OnlyOffice and have it running. Both servers are behind nginx and https. It adds the menus in NC to create/edit docs but returns a normal NC page that has a white body. Seems like the majority of people use docker but I have OO running on a CentOS7 vm. Has anyone got this to work successfully? Both pieces are working but not together. Frustrated to say the least......
On the plus side... I found and corrected an issue with my nginx config on NC. -
RE: Onlyoffice vs Collabora in Nextcloud
@scottalanmiller Funny thing is that it has an almost 5-star review in the apps section in NC..... I'd like to see how many people actually get it to work.

RE: Getting Familiar with Sangoma S500 running with FreePBX as back end. . .
You get the EPM for Sangoma by default. You have to buy the full EPM for all other devices. I believe it is $125 usd.

@Fredtx This has usually worked for me in the past.

RE: Netgear Insight Managed Switches
At one of my clients we installed SFP+ cards in a group of Hyper-V hosts a few years ago. It was worth the extra cost IMO.

RE: Which Nas OS?
If you could manage shares from Cockpit it would be a game changer in the NAS category.

Yealink phones
One of my clients has been using a WISP for a while now for their business. The service was not good enough to be able to use VOIP. They are now in the process of getting a dedicated fiber internet service for their business. They are paying approx $380 USD for POTS and want to migrate to SIP for obvious reasons. It will be beneficial as they have 1 main office with 7 employees and 2 satellite offices.
They have never had a "real" phone system. The only "feature" they have is CID. No voicemail, nothing. They are currently using RCA 4-line desk phones. I want to get them on FreePBX and some Yealink phones. The ISP is trying to talk them into using their hosted VOIP service but the prices are inflated and you have to lease the phones.
I have only used Yealink DECT cordless phones and would like some recommendations for some basic models. I recall random posts here about some that are best to avoid and some that are great. I would rather have recommendations than buy something based off of reviews on websites like Amazon. I have used/installed Cisco, Grandstream, Polycom, Avaya, and Sangoma, etc. but wish to move to Yealink as they seem like a popular choice lately, and not just on ML.

RE: What Are You Drinking
@RojoLoco Yes. Have a bottle of that too. I've heard Peychaud's Bitters is good too but haven't picked up a bottle yet. They have it on Amazon. Local places don't carry it.

RE: Ubuntu 17.10 Released
Ubuntu Server has always been my go-to because it seemed to be the most popular a few years ago. Now, i tend to gravitate towards Fedora and CentOS for my test servers and lab stuff. I will be the first to admit that I am far from an expert but I am trying to learn it as quick as possible. I am however running Mint at home. Thought about trying Fedora desktop though. I just hate always switching. I end up using the desktop as a glorified web browsing box and never actually put any files on it.

RE: Install NextCloud 11 on Fedora 25 with SaltStack
@scottalanmiller Thank you sir. I do have another question - I set up another user and the email for alerts etc. I shutdown the VM from the terminal. Went to my Hyper-V manager and did an export. I started the server again and all is well. Went to the browser to start working in NC again but got page cannot be displayed error. I issued a start command for the httpd service and then got a blank page but no error. Re-ran the salt 'servername' state.apply nextcloud command again and got the return message Succeeded 19 Changed 3. The NC instance is then working again and my info is still there. I am trying to figure out where the issue is. Not sure if this has happened to any of the other installs that you have done or witnessed.
