Need a Good Bottle of Scotch

I've almost never worked somewhere that didn't drink at work. Either unofficially or officially, but mostly it is officially. Most places I've worked serve at the office.
When I saw you mentioned me, i was like "oh no, he is going to say that is highly unprofessional and should be stopped"

Glenfiddich single malt is a good choice. My personal fav is Glenfiddich, balentines (a cheap but very smooth), and just recently tried jameson irish whiskey- also smooth. Used to have Jack Daniels but never really liked the smoky taste of it.
Has anyone tried blue label or chivas regal 12 years?
Jameson is a go-to for me. But I usually have to chase it with something because it's pretty strong, but overall very smooth and very good.

Any Gin drinkers? Can't stand the stuff but my brother loves it. I got him Bombay Sapphire last year as a gift and he really enjoyed it.
I do not like gin AT ALL! Can't stand the stuff. @scottalanmiller loves it

Myself it is either Macallen or Laphroaig, but see if this helps.
I'm going to have to save a copy of this...
Agreed...

I've had a couple of gins that i really liked. They were both from small distillerys.

@thanksajdotcom If he is a big fan of Scotch you might look into finding a local tasting somewhere and take him to that. You'll probably spend less than $100, learn something, and have a better time.
This is a great idea! I will have to see if anything like this is going on in my area!

An outsider might think asking about Scotch on an IT forum doesn't make sense. It makes the most sense.
People outside IT just don't understand...this is why, every year at IT conferences, you have to warn newbies...lol

My assumption is this is a gift related to the new job @thanksajdotcom just got
wouldn't that come off as unprofessional if this were the case?
For a man to sit down with a good bottle of scotch? Well, yeah, if you do it at work or before driving
The bottle is for a friend. It's not because he helped me get the job, but it's because I did get a new job and can finally afford to pay him back for a couple favors I owe him.

At Spiceworld EVERY YEAR, we lay down a couple ground rules for people who are new to the @scottalanmiller pub crawl:
-
DO NOT try to keep up with Scott. Period. Don't try to go drink for drink. You will get hurt, and probably wind up in either the hospital or a parking garage (sorry, couldn't resist).
-
Don't try to keep up with my sleep schedule. You will get hurt, and probably wind up in either the hospital or a parking garage.
I usually sleep 6-10 hours the entire conference. Over 3-4 days. And I don't try to match Scott on drinking...but someday I think I might be able to...then again, he's a Swede and German...his liver is built for this. But I'm English, French and German...so I will probably be okay...lol

I'm of Swiss/German/Irish descent, that means I should have a leg up right?

Nope. That's the same as the "RAID 5 is a special case when used from ZFS before ZFS is so good" argument. But I'm afraid we took that into account when we made the RAID 5 stats already.
Swiss/Scottish here.

But I have a ginger beard. That has to count for something.

I'm drinking right now. How about you?

@scottalanmiller Yes, I'm drinking Starbuck's excuse for esspresso... X-D
And I primarily stick with ale if/when I do drink, and I don't do much volume when I do. I'm not dumb enough to even try and keep up with anyone in regards to alcohol consumption. I don't have the body mass or willpower to come out on the right end of that battle. My brittle old 35 year old body just doesn't recover quite as quickly as it did 15 or so years ago...

So I wanted suggestions from people on here for a good bottle of scotch. I'm looking for something in the $100 price range, maybe even a little more. Was just looking for any ideas people might have. Thanks!
Glenmorangie (company re-launched single malts into user space)
Glenlivet 12-15-18 (I actually prefer 15) <-- I you don't like one of those go get some Pepsi, I'm serious
Macallan - expensive Glenlivet
...
(these are classic)
You can read some of my reviews here:

What do you guys think if I'd create a whiskey thread here on MangoLassi as well?

Oh so many options! I'm looking for some good top shelf stuff...not like millionaire level spending, but something that's around $100/bottle or even a bit more.
I've tried the 16, 18, and 22 Glenlivet. The 22 was surprisingly smooth. The 16 was harsh.
16 ins\t "normal" year so it's a some "special edition" and it's VERY different from COTS 15 yo

I really enjoyed the Highland Park Valhalla Collection: Thor, Loki, Freya, Odin. There's 800 others behind and around in that room. Still working on trying them all.
-
@larsen161 How the hell do you open that, or do you pour 4 cups at once?
