Depends, if you are looking for a Slack replacement, it's great.

Not interested. There is no point to an "IT Pro" chat. Going to something like that requires the person you hope will have an answer to your question to be online and monitoring it.

I have to say I'm not sure how much I'll use a chat program that requires a full tab in my browser.

make that thing a desktop app and I'm much more likely to use it.

The Slack desktop app doesn't work as well as the browser tab. I actually moved the other direction.

But "another" channel of things pinging me is too much. I'm overwhelmed as it is.

If I wanted something like this I would just use Slack.

Only issue there is the cost. Even for a relatively small team you are likely to not be happy with the free version after too long. We tried it at @NTG just to test it out and after a few days knew that only the paid version would cut it and the cost was too high.

Right, but running RocketChat is not free either for any serious amount of traffic. Which calling something like this "IT Pro Chat" hints at a desire to have.
