There are NO limitations in the free XO version.
What about patching? And Exporting VM's?
-
The version that works on the VM, rather than at the hypervisor.
StorageCraft would do this as well, but I don't believe there is a free version.

No free SC version, but all versions are fully featured.

Any agent based solution I have to assume work work with XS because it assumes the OS is baremetal installed (or at least doesn't care where it's installed at all).

Correct. VMs don't know that they are VMs. So agents always work.

Ummm..... No.

It just is. Sorry. You have the XOA as has been mentioned a few times above. You are NOT looking at the free version but the XOA Demo of the Enterprise one. Get the real free one, there are NO limitations.
-
@DustinB3403 can you do an export from your free version to show him?

FYI, there is no OVA for the free one - you have to manually download some packages and do the install yourself, there is no image.
-
@Dashrender right, the free version has to be installed manually.
-
Part of the issue here is calling something "the free one." XO offers itself in multiple free ways. A fully free install with zero limitations and the XOA which is also free but very limited. XO itself has no limitations. The "free one" does depending on if you opt for the full or limited one.
But there is no question: All XO features are available for free.
-
This is VERY unclear. Where are instructions to install the "real" free version?

Yah you're using the paid pre-built version without support.... the free version works.

If you don't use the appliance and install it by hand. That's a big IF.
There website points you to the appliance and it isn't clear that there is a different in the appliance.....

probably better to say, the "fully featured" free one as both versions are real versions and both are free.
Also, since the installation of the fully featured one is so simplistic why even offer the limited edition free one? It does nothing but frustrate people and make something appear to be less than it is.
-
@anonymous I also have a topic on the mangolassi.it forums as well as several people have uploaded several containerized versions for simple install into Xen Server...

It has a 15 day trial support. So if you want to upgrade within that window you can just use the same image. It will also update to newer versions unlike the open source one.

WARNING: we don't make support for this manual installation. We cannot guarantee anything if used in production. Use it at your own risks.
They should offer the Premium free to IT Pros for home use only, no support. They we can test this stuff at home and buy for work.....
