XenServer Backup

@DustinB3403 the first round was something like that (at our local scale). We are not in a bad/urgent situation either. We "just" got a "limited bandwidth".
So you need developers, but you'll likely only get the developers with capitol to pay them.
Let me know when you start the next VC CFunding operation. I want in.

Generally a requirement

@DustinB3403 That's roughly the idea yes. Thanks, will do!

The money or the developers?

Money to pay developers.

So @olivier you never answered my question, when does the "Importing" feature get released?

Sorry didn't see the question. What do you mean by importing feature?
-
The topic I posted the other day about restoring a VM, how there is no indication if the import is completed until the vDisk appears.
You mentioned that the VM name would remain "Importing... <name>" and then get renamed
-
@DustinB3403 That's fixed and be out for the 4.12, Friday (or at worst Monday).
If you like to be cutting edge, switch to "next-release" branch on both xo-web and xo-server. It's already in there.
-
@olivier Awesome.

Oh and final thing about this AMA-ish stuff: the goal wasn't to complain about EU investors and giving them all the blame, but just to give a picture of the situation, explaining things. Have a nice day lads

Don't leave us for the day
There is so much more we could ask you!

@DustinB3403 Go ahead, I'll answer when I can

Well this is one question that has kind of nagged me, how do you protect the Xen Orchestra VM?
You can't back it up, using it's self.
-
@DustinB3403 You can backup it if you want ^^ Exporting the backup on a NFS remote share, then if it crashes, re-import a new XOA, connect to the NFS share and reimport it. Tadaaa
No problem to export a running VM, so no problem to export "itself".
-
And very soon, you'll have the "continuous VM replication" allowing you to protect XOA itself too, with a minimal downtime.
-
BTW, I made very interesting tests with ZFS on Linux + XOA delta backups.
Using LZ4 compression is very impressive. Maybe one day integrate the LZ4 compression on the fly into xo-server.

You could run it in a container like me and then just clone the container and export it.
-
What I was planning on doing what at the hypervisor level.
Since I'm running on Xen, I was going to use NAUBackup to simply export a full on a weekly schedule....
-
@olivier I have a quick question. So I ran an incremental backup. I got the green terminated sign, but there was still a snapshot of the VM left. Does XO need the snapshot to restore the deltas from?
