Have a good weekend.

We've got the grandkids for the weekend. Taking them to a BD party on Sunday. Thank goodness it isn't at CEC!
-
Heading home to Dallas late tonight. So plan on a weekend hanging out with the kids.
-
Supposed to be high 87f here this weekend trying to do as much outside fun stuff as possible before it gets cold
-
Have soccer games in the morning. Then off to Six (American) Flags over Texas with the kids for a company picnic. Still wish it was the 6 original flags (~mutters something about them having to be politically correct or something~)

You'd have to in texas. They'd assume six Texan flags.

No. They took the 6 flags that once flown over this land one time or another and replaced them all with American flags.

Wrong. It represents the 6 different countries that have one time or another laid claim to Texas. France, Spain, Mexico, Republic of Texas, Confederacy, and US.

But not Germany? That's odd.

No, because Germany never laid claim. We just had a lot of German immigrants which really helped to settle Texas. But they never laid claim to Texas.

What do you mean they didn't? They always made claim to it. Remember Spain wasn't an independent country during the whole of its ownership of Texas, it was part of the German Empire. Germany had claim to it longer than any other country in history.
Spain was the German "department" that oversaw it.

Then Spain was the proxy for Germany, but Texas history in Public school gives the credit to Spain because Spanish ships couldn't navigate worth crap, stopped in about today's Alabama and dropped off some men. Storm came and pushed the ship back to sea to eventually land in about Galveston and try to navigate back to Alabama, everyone dying on the way.

Well we know that they don't teach history. But it would be like saying that a state laid claim instead of a country. Spain wasn't a proxy. Spain is the "state" of Germany that Texas was under.
Just like Texas is a state in the US.
-
That's why there were so many German enclaves in Texas. As part of the German Empire, everyone in the empire has the right to live in texas.
-
Just like how Texans love to say that we are the only state that used to be a country when in fact Hawaii was it's own monarchy before getting ripped and turning into a state.

And all thirteen colonies were their own countries before joining together to form the US.
