MANGOLASSI World/Con/give me a name idea please
-
After living in a country with a Mango Tree in the yard I actually hate eating mango anything here. Not good at all, comparatively.
-
So I have to ask this because of where I have been and am currently living....
What would people think of having the conference outside of the US, maybe in a lower cost location where mangoes are common? It would make the name make more sense, mean that the conference could do more exciting things and could be an exciting point of interest for people to get to travel someplace new or different. I know that it is probably loaded with big caveats like people don't have passports, companies won't let them travel outside the US, logistics are tough, etc. But it could mean a bigger conference for less money too. Hotels would be cheaper, food cheaper, support staff cheaper, etc.

Which would support my idea of having the event in a mango country! The roads are covered with them falling off of the trees here.

I already ran into the issue of doing in anything in Canada and many do not have a passport. And aren't willing to leave the states due to Boss issues with going to an out of country conference.
-
Habaneros are local too. And the hot sauces are made locally. It's a pretty big win all around.
-
I also am not dealing with trying to get a conference together outside of my driving range. Not happening.

There is the option to alternate, one year in, one year out.

Am I the only one here who doesn't like the taste of mangoes?
I should hope so, mangoes aren't something that I want to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Don't get me wrong, I do like mangoes but I'm not keen on polishing off half a plantation. -

Mango sticky rice too!
-
Green coconuts with straws, big thing down here.

Good idea, but we non-US mangoes are spread pretty thin

It would help to encourage that number and make it less US-centric which is already covered to some degree by SW. If we were outside of the US we would cover more "different" territory rather than stepping on existing toes.

Maybe in a few years when we are big enough to hire someone else to do the planning we can do an alternative one.
-
Realistically, what countries would be on the short list? I have a passport, and I'd love to use it.

That's a good question. And there are lots of decent options depending on what we want out of the location. Both Panama and Nicaragua seem like awesome options to me. Panama because it is modern and vibrant with lots to do. Nicaragua because the money would go FAR and we could do so much with a conference here. I'm new here in Nicaragua but so far this place is awesome and I could see us being able to do a conference that was truly epic here at a cost that would be really reasonable.
-
Costa Rica would be far more "doable" but the cost would be much higher making it make less sense.
-
Mexico can work fine too down south, but many people are fearful of it even though it is extremely safe (in the south.)
Nicaragua is just three hours from Houston and lots of flights in, also the safest place in this part of the world (safer than the US) so very nice there. People are SO friendly here.

Well, you just flew to Central America, how much was it from Texas? If the cost difference between hotels, etc and the flights makes it all wash out within 20-30% difference, I'd do it.
