Or people will simply buy the movies and not worry about the renting version. They can buy on Walmart's Vudu streaming service, at least for now. I suppose the question is - Will Disney stop allowing people to buy movies from Vudu once their subscription service goes live?

If they do, I'll just buy the DVDs and put them on my Plex server.

      If they keep offering those.

If they quit offering physical media and their streaming is crap, well, I got other things I can spend my money on.

That's already my position. I generally avoid movies made by Disney. I would love if their stuff didn't just disappear from Netflix, but just disappeared 🙂 I'm not saying that they've never made something good, just that I'd be fine giving it all up, forever.

You are in a very small minority that feels that way.

I wonder if that is true. Or maybe Disney fans are the minority, but so vocal and it is not socially acceptable to not like it, so we think everyone does, but in reality, perhaps a lot of people don't. The problem is, Disney fans are insanely vocal, and generally easily offended. So it's a lot of social pressure that if you don't like Disney franchises that you are expected to not mention it. Much like not liking franchise sports. Loads of people think that they are silly, but there is a huge social pressure to not point out the logical flaws in the games.

I saw I hate football all the time - and so do many other people I know. While I do agree the social pressure is/was there, but it's definitely lessening on a great many things.

In some ways, but not that much I don't think. American Football maybe, but not sports overall I don't think, just the one specific one out of a pool that seems to hold pretty steady.

Tying all sports together like this is like tying all movie/tv entertainment together - not really a fair comparison.

Sure neither are being dropped en masse, that wasn't my point. My point is that people are separating themselves from the herd and choosing what they do and don't like, and bowing at least a bit less today to general peer/societal pressure, i.e. everyone must love the mouse.

California earthquake leaves scar on the desert

The strongest earthquake to hit California in two decades left a scar across the desert which can be seen from space, new pictures show.

The 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck on Friday at a depth of just 0.9km (0.6 miles), creating a fissure near its epicentre about 240km north-east of Los Angeles.

France has approved a digital services tax despite threats of retaliation by the US, which argues that it unfairly targets American tech giants.

Chinese air pollution dimmed sunlight enough to impact solar panels

Pollution from coal and biomass burning blocks 13% of solar electricity.
Coal is seen by many as an enemy of renewable energy and the first fossil fuel in line for elimination as things like solar and wind generation have gotten cheaper.
