Why does microsoft insist that the loopback address be included but not as the first entry of DNS? Don't we all set the first entry of a domain controller as itself? Trying to understand the reasoning considering loopback would be more reliable

Loopback will work when some other things have failed. Fewer moving parts.

So what is their reasoning in this scenario or is there just none?

Can you show their documentation?

@scottalanmiller Actually I just found it. Apparently if you have loopback as the first address it can have trouble finding it's replication partners.

So do you guys put the loopback as the secondary or tertiary DNS entry?

You forgot driving through Blue Ball to go through Intercourse! Yes, we actually were on a road trip in high school that we went through both of them, in the expected order! https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Intercourse,+PA/Blue+Ball,+PA/@40.0783402,-76.147894,12z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x89c638ca947b9567:0xa9157e7cd574de6c!2m2!1d-76.1075043!2d40.0383787!1m5!1m1!1s0x89c66a84e3cc1793:0x643f08cf141e27c6!2m2!1d-76.0482087!2d40.1183438
