Winbook Tw801 - Maybe The Best "Cheap" Windows Tablet?

Very cool. Microsoft is working hard to get Windows devices out in the lower Android price ranges. For devices like this, the OS is free these days.
Microsoft is still going to have to push "Developers. Developers. Developers" to make good MODERN/METRO apps. Sure, this will run desktop apps but it really does need more quality and useful "tablet" apps.
-
Okay, now that is seriously cheap. That is "let me get one just to try it out" cheap.
-
@garak0410 I will be swinging by Microcenter tomorrow for something and I will have to look at this.

But will it run Linux?
At the price, I may have to look into picking one up... Could be fun

I don't have a Microcenter.. I guess I'll have to check Amazon.

@Dashrender You can't order from Mirco?
Damn - had the impression I could order from them and ship.. even still,.. the added $35 isn't a deal killer. -
I'll supply more opinion on it tomorrow after some use tonight. It has a solid feel to it thus far. The start screen actually feels small, that is, not as easy to read... and "show more tiles is not selected.".... but it is passable....

@garak0410 Any chance you tell me how this software looks on it?
http://www.behringerdownload.de/X32/X32-Edit_V2.3_PC.zip It's for a digital console. -
I wonder how well it will run our EHR? could be a nice little portable to replace iPad minis.
-
Wow I will be interested in this for our techs. This would be easy to put in their hands at that price.

The resolution is listed as 800x1280

More impressions:

Battery Life seems good but not great. For sure nowhere near iPad Mini battery life. Took it off it's first charge around 3:30 yesterday. Used it moderately between then and this morning. As of 8AM today,. it is sitting at 11% and about to put it on charger. Doing the first time full charge, near run down cycle.
-
The screen isn't exactly flush with the sides, so prolonged resting of a thumb/finger at that point results in a dent in your thumb/finger.
-
Long pressing on the desktop to bring up the context menu results in a 2 second delay. All other long presses (files, taskbar) are fine.
-
Office seems to run just fine and it isn't so bad to do some simple edits with the desktop onscreen keyboard.
-
Scaling seems to be weird, compared to the Dell Venue 8 Pro.
-
Wi-Fi seems a little slow but time will tell if it is just congestion or a problem with the device.
-
The Screen has good viewing angles but not perfect. Again, this is FAR from the Iconia W3 or Toshiba Encore Mini.
-
After all updates and a handful of Modern Apps, I still have about 12GB. I plan on putting in a MicroSD and mounting it to install desktop apps, including Visual Studio to give it as good run through.
All in all, for the price, this is not to shabby, especially considering the full USB 3.0 port. Longevity will be the key on this one. If you struggle with vision, the scaling may not be too good on the eyes. But again, sometimes the iPad Mini is bad on my eyes.

They may not scale well in the native portrait mode...I've not tried many desktop apps yet but Windows Explorer windows needed to be resized to look better...

I'd have to run in landscape, not portrait.
The Iconia W3 and Toshiba Encore Mini both have models in the same price range - and you're saying those are better than this?

Sorry, I should have made that clearer. This is far BETTER than those two disasters of screens. This isn't quite as good as the Venue 8 Pro's screen as it does have some angle issues but it isn't really a problem at this price range...

Give it several days and give us a follow up review. Very interested to see what you think of it after you have had some time to really get annoyed with it
