Has anyone noticed an uptick in Windows10 auto upgrading to Windows11 due to windows updates?
Seeing this with many Back office PC's where they "leave at the end of the night and it's windows10 and the come back and it's windows 11"Just curious if were the only one's seeing this
While I haven't personally - I fully expect this to be the case. The longer Windows 11 is out, the more machines that will automatically go, if they pass the specs.
it just is a pain in the ass when it happens.
cause 3 or 4 of the programs we install on our devices get uninstalled.you're POS software?
Reporting software, our remote connection software, Google Chrome (which has all of the book marks)

Are you sure they are actually removed and that the desktop wasn't just cleaned up?
I upgraded my home laptop to Windows 11 and all my shit stayed there.

Heh - I don't have to worry about Auto Upgrade as every computer I have is not compatible with it. One computer is so unsupported - 21h1 BSODs the damn thing...
I'll get 11 when I replace them,.. and I'm not about to replace every one at the same time...

Out of curiosity, how many workstations would that entail?

At the min - five: Two adults and three kids. If I decide that I need to dedicate one to the Laser - that could be Linux- so anything 'as old as three years' would be fine. I think I remember reading that LightBurn is cross platform - in which case - IDC - I could use one of the device I have moved to Ubuntu...
ETA - As many as four will likely need to be 'gaming class' computers.

No -- pffft... i could careless there - We are about to order 20 devices when we migrate to the new office... so - no issue with $$ there - not at Lenovo pricing for a laptop.

Windows 10 will never automatically upgrade to Windows 11 without user action and consent by default.

Well - yes and no...
I'd say about 60% of my staff would freak out if Windows 11 took more than about 5 mins to do the update when they turned on their computer in the morning or after lunch.
Having IT/Bench do it ensures there's an understanding for the users.
Frankly - I'm wondering how large companies "push" out a major upgrade? going from Windows 7 to Windows 10 - of course Windows update could do it, and I'd say 90%+ it worked fine, but the users were waiting for an hour plus for the upgrade to happen - the same thing happened with upgrades inside of Windows 10 - one morning they would just arrive and the update would start and no computer for an hour - now what?
-
@dashrender they build a new image and reimagined the computer. Itβs easy.

Yeah, I can't see this happening on 1000's+ computers. Something more automated seems likely.
-
@dashrender I never said it wasnβt automated
-
@dashrender The upgrade to Windows 10 was the first I remember that would just work more often than not. When it didn't work it would roll back to whatever version you were upgrading from. I, personally, never had it fail outright and leave a computer in an unusable state. So we'd schedule the upgrade to happen overnight most of the time if we couldn't get the upgrade scheduled during the day when we could watch it.

Cool - I didn't know about that with MDT. Though I haven't used it ages. Plus I'm really trying to get away from local AD.

What's that have to do with MDT?
