Nextcloud - how to restore many deleted files

Restore from trash has always worked just fine for me.
I was discussing the restore to point in time that was specifically asked about.
What was mentioned was "select all and recover" which is literally exactly what it has. I didn't see anything about a point in time and definitely didn't respond to one. Check the thing that I quoted.

Restore from trash is what you quoted and said it didn't have.

We already had few serious issues with it (bugs with mainstream Intel GPU never solved etc.) but we switched to it due to pricing advantage.
How is NC interacting with the GPU at all? That's very strange. You have this in a VM, right?
Issue was with Windows client app. It was not in a VM.

Who HAS this feature? The biggest player on the market doesn't have it.
Dropbox has it (we still use Dropbox partly).
For us it is common problem that users mistakenly move entire folder. It happens to us few times a year maybe. -

NC has option of "select all" but that option has no value for us, after we use it about a year!!!
Who needs option to restore all deleted files in entire history of usage? We needed to restore hundreds of files deleted on that day, not entire history of deleted files - that would be a mess
-
Dropbox also shows large deletions as one "event" that you can undo which is also a nice feature.
-
We also noticed that some users still have access to group folders, after we removed those users from those groups which is weird. We did not found time to analyze and check/report a bug about it. But now I don't feel cofident in NC after these few issues.

@scottalanmiller said in Nextcloud - how to restore many deleted files:
Sure does, just select or "select all" and choose "restore".
Of course, in this example it works fine because you have "1 folder and 2 files"
But after a year or so, we have this, so the option "select all" is pointless:

Because @DustinB3403 changed from the posted needs of the topic and I missed that.

I made no such change to the post. Look at my original reply.

Question: Is there a way to simply restore many files at once in Nextcloud (but not entire history of deleted files)?
Just for the record, here is my conclusion and experience with this topic, so far.
The problem was:- 3 group folders (>2.000 files) were somehow deleted from our Nextcloud
- we suspect it's user error, but we don't have proof of that
Our conclusion is
1. Nextcloud does not have an option to restore many accidentaly deleted files. You can select individual files/folders to restore, all "Select all" (meaning whole history) and restore it. For example, Dropbox have two options for this: a) "Rewind this folder" to get everything back as it was, and b) When you delete many fils at once, you can select does "events" with single click and restore many files at once
2. We lost few subfolders (>700files) that we can't find in "Deleted files" which is terrible experience for us, and we will reconsider our usage of Nextcloud (I plan to open another topic for that). We recovered from backup. Thanks to everybody who contributed to this topic!

@DustinB3403 Thank you.
I must say that I am a bit disappointed with Nextcloud. This should be normal feature.
We already had few serious issues with it (bugs with mainstream Intel GPU never solved etc.) but we switched to it due to pricing advantage.
However, I can't say it is as reliable as Dropbox, so far. What does Nextcloud cost?
Totally free. We run it here, too.
I know. That's my point. We manage about 40 NextCloud installations for our customers.

In some ways, this is horrible. But in others, it's amazing. You are able to simply backup and recovery. Taking an external backup of most cloud services is hard or impossible. We had Microsoft "accidentally" delete loads of data from our OneDrive and neither could they recovery by rewinding nor did they have backups to recover from! And they were the ones that lost them while doing unauthorized work on our system!
So while it's awful that NextCloud doesn't have a convenient way to get back from a major loss, it's amazing that they have an inconvenient way to recover because not everyone does.

As you answered to me earlier, your point was that Nextcloud is free, so I should not expect features like Dropbox has

OK, I agree, backup of Dropbox is "hard or impossible" with multiple users.
I didn't thought about that advantage of Nextcloud. We will need to see how practical is "recovery from backup".
"Rewind" feature in Dropox is very practical to use. However, it is not backup. -

Options:
- Files are in another folder, moved by random_user_03, thus not in trash.
- Files were deleted, and trash emptied by malicious_user_06.

Option 1. - We can't find missing files/folders niether in local Nextcloud folders nor online?
Option 2. - As I said, technicaly possible, but hard to believe in our case -

As for lost track? That is easy there are CLI commands to rescan files.
Never had to use it because of user error before. Only because I was administratively changing things.
