Mostly, yes. I try not to be so sedentary and just sitting on the couch.
-
@scottalanmiller I should follow your lead.

I don't like wall-mounting TVs at all. Don't you find them too high? Aren't you having to crane your neck upwards? When I'm lying on the sofa I like the telly to be at eye level, so just stand it on a TV cabinet.
Who said you have to mount it near the ceiling?
I very much took this into account when mounting mine on the wall, it's rather low on the wall - for example, I detest TVs above the fireplace, I'll never do that personally.

Idk if you guys remember me complaining about Laura not wanting to move the power outlet into the center of the wall (when we were building our house), but after weeks of discussion I just gave up. I knew eventually that she would realize how wrong she was.
What we could've had:
What we have:
I put in a call to our electrician to get an estimate, but it's easily going to cost us 3-4x the amount we would've spent during the build. At least Laura will learn to listen to me next time (she won't)
Do it yourself and just cut the hole, drop the cable, put in a box and wire it up off of the existing outlets. .

I don't understand.. so you gain a bit by standing instead of sitting - but what? just standing in the middle of the room, or off to one side?
My wife hates it when I'm standing watching TV, if she can see me standing she feels like I'm lording over her, even if I'm 15 feet away...

@Dashrender @Pete-S I've considered all of this. The reason I want an electrician to move the power outlet/ethernet is because it's an external wall and if I need to replace cables here and there (replacing the roku, tv, or other) I am worried I will rip up my insulation and a true conduit isn't to code in NJ. If I have him move the ethernet and power then there is no problem.
Nah that wouldn't be a real issue, just use a fish to feed the cable down, clean and simple.

I wouldn't do it. If you want something else on that wall down the line, the outlets will be in the way.
Have some nice cable management installed instead. You can have it painted as well.
That's ugly as all sin, and removing the cable after the fact and doing a drywall patch is stupidly simple.

With the cable molding option as well you'll need longer than the cables that are provided with the TV in almost every case.
Not a huge issue, just a headache. A drywall saw is ~$4 plus the power cable for maybe $15 for 25 feet.

I'm with Wire - it's definitely not a clean... I just installed a new power plug myself behind my TV... though not an outside wall, not that that should be that big of a deal...

Depends on the insulation. But yeah for the most part the power should run on top of the fiberglass. Super simple. Get two rework boxes and you're good to go.

Yeah, unless these walls are filled to the edge with spray foam, feeding a few power cables down isn't going to be an issue. With fiberglass you'd just push through the insulation in those specific paths and it still wouldn't be that big of a loss.

Yeah, It's a new building so I hope there is spray foam. But even then it might not be that difficult. Might just need a wire probe.
-
@coliver exactly, feeding through would still be easily done.

No one around here does spray foam by default.

I wonder what the price difference is? I'm guessing it used to be huge, but perhaps today, not so much??

It's anywhere from twice to 3 times as much to spray foam new construction.

Now if you were renovating and doing this yourself you can pick up spray foam kits that cost ~$770 which while still pricey, would save money compared to fiberglass.

Based on the spec sheet of that foam 1.5" of wet foam would completely fill a modern 2x4 timber house, which would be ~18.6 R value in your walls (which is crazy high).
