I was thinking that too. The RP4 is the first model that was really useful for things beyond education, IoT and really niche uses. Going for anything in the RP3 family makes it just so underpowered as to be useless.

That was one of the many things presented in the blog/faq. Why didn’t they wait for the rPi 4,.. or used a full rPi 3.
Balance of power, options and battery is what I think they boiled it down to.
Using th Compute Module keeps it thin, but with that you lose power. You don’t need a beefy heat sink either, and the rPi 4 is best with a good active/passive one.

Because that's too large to fit in the device in that form factor, and would not solve any problem as the RP3 is the useless device we were referencing.

None is needed, it stays amazingly cool. Always better to have one, but you can do without. Or just expose it.

Not... horrible. But too much for what it is. Between that and the cost of the Pi, I could almost buy a new iPad.

@scottalanmiller That's my point, which is a well known product that can certainly do most if not everything you'd need from a tablet.

I get that this is meant to be a hobbyist tablet used for projects and that's cool and all. But a tablet is a weird form factor for that, and it doesn't match the ecosystem. Normally people use RP because it's so cheap. This makes it... no longer so cheap.

Agreed - if the rPi was had a bit more power and memory, maybe. But right now the ecosystem of it just doesnt make it better than a tablet.
It's neat - but not practical. yet.

Brand new is just like $330, though. With full support and 100x the power of an RP.
