Folder Redirection - GPO - W7 to W10

Hi Guys, can you please help here.
We have a client who have 10x Windows 7 computers and have folder redirection configured on a server via a GPO. It sync their local desktop/documents/fav items to the server. It works well.

However, we are rolling out W10 now and replacing their old computers and when joining the domain, its not syncing their profiles. I pressume I need to change the GPO to reflect Win10 path, but not sure where/how/what i should change exactly?

Does anyone know the best way to map the folders back. EG. I have just plugged in the 1st W10 PC and have a blank desktop, is there a simple way of reconnecting it to look at the users profile?

Win7 profiles create a folder username.V2, Win10 profiles create a folder username.V6. The profiles are different enough that MS won't reuse them apparently.

When they log into Win10 it is creating them a whole new profile without their stuff. Likely in the same location as the old profile given GPOs are involved.

There is no auto sync for this process that I'm aware of. You can copy docs and what not from the old profile to the new after the new folder is created.

Somebody might have a script lying around that would help out with the move?

Are the Win 7 machines using profile redirection or simply folder redirection? I'm guessing folder by your list.

You need to place the Win10 machines into the same Active Directory OU as the Windows 7 machines so that the existing GPO will be applied to them...

Or make a new OU for the Win10 machines and place the computers objects inside it, and link the old Win 7 GPO to that new OU.

Adding the computers into the security group we had for FolderRedirection and forcing a GPO update did the trick. Cheers

Check the logs on the new Win10. There is a reason they are not redirecting. We have not had to change our redirection policies for Win10 and all of our clients are redirected.

\\ServerName\FolderRedirection%UserName%

^^^ That's where they will be.

It's better to place the GPO on the User side not the Computer side. Any membership changes are instant not waiting for the 90 minute refresh threshold for Computer policies.

I use both. Some items are machine dependent some are user.

For user endpoints we only use User based policies. It's a lot easier to manage especially if changes need to be made. Log off, log on. Done.
