Windows 10 Upgrade stops at 31% (or any %)
-
The worst nightmare for a Windows 10 migration (from Windows 7), despite the "non compatilitiy" restrictions on Windows 10 update tool, which help to prevent issues, is to have a "Windows installation failed" after wait by (hours ??) and all stopped at 31% (in other cases may be 35%).
Based on my current experience, let me share 3 actions/tips that helped me a lot:
-
Check if Windows Security Essentials is installed, if so, please uninstall it before the upgrade.
-
Run CMD as Administrator and run "sfc /scannow" - this would take even 30 minutes, depending on you HW, once finished proceed to upgrade.
-
Run CMD as Administrator, and run "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth" and "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth". these two commands may take some time to process.
If these three options doesn´t work, maybe need to consideer a HW issue/conflict, but as always, if any of you have suggestions please let us know...

Also an unclean user profile is something I have seen. Nothing that stops it from working in 7, but it kills the upgrade.
-
i might add running a chkdsk /f /r as well.

I recently had problems with some Dells that have AMD graphics cards. I had to uninstall the video drivers to get it to go through. Ours were stopping at 48%.
-
@Dashrender yeah... that´s for sure another great option...
-
@bnrstnr could you please let us know the AMD graphic card model?
