Why does everyone Hate Point of Sale systems?What are you're thoughts on PoS ?
Be honest, be specific.
I'm curious to whatPOS is doing to piss off IT departments at our sites/nation wide.the Community thinks about Point of Sale equipment, Goods, bads, uglies -
I'm not aware of IT hating PoS systems. I know of PoS systems that people like. Like anything we generally hate bad solutions and bad software. So if companies buy bad PoS, people will hate it. I use PoS at businesses that I think look very good (although I don't manage them so don't know end to end how good it is.)
A better question would be, I think, why are so many retailers willing to purchase such bad PoS systems?

Pricing.
People run on emotions and price is a manipulator of of Logic.I'm going to revise the question.

Things that will automatically make IT upset with a product...
- Being overly expensive.
- Being client / server and not being in the 1980s.
- Only running on Windows.
- Only running on old OSes and not allowing for properly security or patching.
- Ghost shipping
- Not having an HTML5 based interface

Yes, but businesses run on logic. Only businesses need PoS, not people. If businesses run on emotions, that makes them a hobby. And IT has no logical place in a hobby. Hence a disconnect.

Client / Server was a way to make software that was "leading edge" in the 1980s, but by the 1990s we knew better than to keep doing it. It's a system where essentially your architecture is a central database and then a bunch of client applications that talk to that database. That's a "good" client / server. A really bad one that is actually client / file is to do something like Access does and have applications and they talk to a shared file rather than a database server.
You can generally identify client/server software by the need to install something on desktops. That's not a guarantee, but it's nearly a guarantee. Client/server was considered an incompetent way to make software by the later 1990s, over 20 years ago.

A ghost ship is when a ship (at sea) has lost its crew but doesn't sink and keeps on drifting. Software shops will often make software and keep selling it for years or decades after the "crew" who made it have left the company and the company can no longer maintain or update it (which often remains can't fully support). This is why client server software often exists... it was actually made by someone in the 1990s who has left and the company keeps selling it, but they can't modernize it because they don't have the skills remaining in house to work on the software.
