NC and BackupPC would likely be a good solution.
Both available for free outside of your hosting cost for NC (assuming on Vultr).

For consumer level backup, use consumer level tools. If your family just needs backup of their documents and pictures why not just use any one of the innumerably free consumer products, Google Drive, OneDrive, DropBox, etc.?

Eh... I suppose. I think it would be easier to restore a family members files from anywhere, whenever than having to be on site..

Eh... I suppose. I think it would be easier to restore a family members files from anywhere, whenever than having to be on site..
Yeah, I don't offer that service to family members. It is all best effort support for me.

My mother's computer just died recently and it had been a backblaze computer for several years. Download the client and login and she has access to all of her pictures.
