Why Does It Always Go That Way?
-
Ok, so maybe I did this back asswards, but in March I found myself in need of a job. Almost exactly a month later, I started at my new job where I am currently employed. Now, I don't know if it just took the system time to get my resume through it but, quite literally, almost to the day I started I had emails flooding in with job opportunities and recruiters from all across the country and from, now, at least a dozen different recruitment firms, both calling and emailing me. Sure, I flooded my resume out there on job boards, to companies, through sites like Indeed, etc but why? JUST WHY?!
Not that I have any experience with this but I hear dating always happens that way. You get a girlfriend, and then suddenly girls start flirting with you. Must be nice to be those guys...ANYWAYS!
I just don't understand why, when I needed to hear from these people, I was grasping at straws for SOMETHING! Then, suddenly I'm off the market and everyone and their uncle wants to contact me with opportunities.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks,
A.J. -
It's like dating. No woman wants you when you are single, get a girlfriend and every girl wants you.

My point exactly. Is forbidden fruit really considered that much sweeter?!

The grass is always greener on the other side. It's only when you get there that you realise that it's fertilised with BS.
-
My grandmother has a picture of four cows and a fence in a plus shape and each has its head through the barbed wire eating the grass on the other side of the fence of the cow next to it. It nicely illustrates that it's all the same grass. Lol

I'm not sure how to take that...

It typically takes 1.5-2 months from posting a resume to start getting nibbles. I'm not quite sure why that is, but it is.
-
because it takes time for folks to see the resume.
-
And time for them to go through them and get around to responding.
-
Does the old-fashioned process of advertising a vacancy and then having candidates apply no longer exist? Do employers now have to find employees rather than vice versa? I posted a vacancy on one of the UK leading job sites last week and have basically had zero response.
-
Why, if that's the way it works, haven't guys figured out how to beat the system? Just date any girl that comes along and is desperate enough to date you. Then, dangle her like bait so the other girls get curious and move in closer. Then, grab one of them. Could it be that simple? Have I just unwittingly unlocked one of the secret hacks of the universe?

This was my policy at school. It didn't lead to any other girls though.
-
Maybe it becomes obvious when you're doing it intentionally.

That's fairly accurate. When there were fewer job sites, it was easier to search them all and apply directly. There's always a company's own site, but those positions usually attract people interested in the company more so than people qualified for the positions. Now, with a dilution in job sites, it's hard for candidates to find the right listings. This is why recruiters are popular. It's becoming common for a company to partner up with a recruiting firm to find candidates for their open positions. I've seen the positive impact that doing so can have on a company.

Been there, done that, and it got way complicated.
