Help With Resume

Take a minute and think about your target audience and what message you are trying to send. This will help a lot. Try to read your resume from the perspective of someone you'd want potentially hiring you. What would the information that you choose to include on your resume tell them about how you view yourself?

Looking way better.
Now make the font for Skills and Employment just a tad later. They get lost in with the other headers. Or add a line underthem. Something to break up the page.

Agree. That looks nice. I like the bulleted items....easy to scan for by both eyes and by whatever scanning tools they use for keywords.
-
@scottalanmiller Done. I removed a lot of the filler from my older jobs to make it fit on a single page.

Yup, the older a job is, the leaner it should be.
-
I should add that I never put an address on a resume. That is none of their business, it's inappropriate information for this stage of the process. Only HR gets your address and only after you are hired. Email and maybe phone number, that's it.
-
@scottalanmiller Thanks Scott. All of you guys are awesome. I appreciate the help.
-
Hope that it helps!
-
Looks pretty good now. Only saw the "before" from the screencaps.

My capitalization and pluralization are wrong in a few places (see last bullet point)

So wife showed my resume to her boss and she suggests I add this:
Results driven professional offering a progressive, 17 year career in information technology.
Expertly manage technical support operations and troubleshooting issues to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
Process improvement champion researching ways to strengthen security, enhance efficiency, and control costs.I want to sell myself but don't want to sound over confident. Thoughts?

Sounds like filler to me. When I see that stuff I think "this guy copied stuff from a college class where the professor has no idea how resumes work - this is obvious boilerplate". I know lots of people are told to put this stuff on, but I use this as an example of why collleges aren't useful for professionals.

I agree with @scottalanmiller . It is fluff, but having the 17+ years experience statement on top of the resume helps. I do something similiar with my resume. All the other stuff is just fluff though. @alex-olynyk let me know if you would like to see my resume via pm.

You can have that and keep it very lean. Something like...
17 year IT Pro focused on scalable web hosting and SQL Server databases.

That is how mine is setup. One small sentence.

I'm okay with that. Just enough to be like "this is who I am." Definitely don't say "what you are looking for" though, that's the worst.

The main purpose is to calculate the years so whoever is reviewing the resume doesn't have to do the math.

Yeah, that makes sense.
