Setup 3 node cluster

Well i have scale 3 node cluster already .. I want to build another one like scale out of my old hp g7 servers
Always great to get to "meet" our customers! Hope that it is working well for you. Sounds promising that you want more Scale functionality

I think XenServer will do this with a 3 node cluster much easier, but I've never actually tested it as I've never had 3 nodes available at once.
Same issues, you'll need CEPH, StarWind or something similar.
I used Gluster. But I'm doing images because I wanted the internal snapshot functions. I have a Gluster brick replicated between two nodes. Disks are replicated that way.
However, I'm going to be buying a Scale system prob beginning of 2017 so I won't have that running for long. In hindsight, I'd do Gluster in the VM. Much easier to manage a service with corosync and pacemaker in a VM than on the host.

More flexible, too. You can move it around.

Storage? Local? SAN? Cloud? Fairy dust?
The details......
Backend connectivity, Fiber? iSCSI? Wireless? -

Ok. I have 3 hp g7 same model. I want to set them all up as a cluster. same way scale does.
What Scale does is highly unique. What you have is a modified hypervisor that knows about the storage, a customer storage layer that is very advanced and designed specifically for this use and a then a customer web management layer that controls it all for you. That's not something you can build at home.
You can use VMware + VSAN (very expensive) or Hyper-V + StarWind (not cheap) to do this without some crazy complication. But I'm assuming that for an "old cluster" you aren't looking for an investment. If you were, you'd just buy more Scale gear.
So you are going to be looking at free. And probably Xen or KVM + CEPH is going to do that and that's not trivial, at all.
We'll try to fix that immediately after our V8 R5 release after NY giving away unrestricted StarWind vSAN for free. Switching to appliance business ;))

@KOOLER Your company's business model is changing?

No just want to play around. and learn new things.

@scottalanmiller Thank you very much for the mention.
Our Virtual SAN can support 3-way synchronous replication with Hyper-V, VMware or Xen. As mentioned prior, we will install on the hosts providing hyper-convergence and HA between the nodes. We do not require a switch for 3-nodes as we will recommend that they are directly connected to each other. It's a simple and cost effective way to accomplish the clustering that you are looking for. If you think that would be of interest you can always try a 30-day trial here: https://www.starwindsoftware.com/starwind-virtual-san
But if you have any questions please feel free to ask away!

Do tell!
Post here once that goes live.

That will do wonders for the Hyper-V market.

XOSAN would be a nice setup for 3 node cluster
Beta program in January! (not the final product but a test at scale to validate some choices).
It already doable "manually" but not trivial (but faaaaaaaaar trivial than using Ceph, for a 3 node installation, it doesn't make sense).
Ceph is like OpenStack (and they go well each other): they are good for large installations. Otherwise, it's a pain that isn't worth it.

You should talk to @KOOLER about his upcoming storage layer for Xen.

Is XEN Orchestra free?

Is XEN Orchestra free?
English is a bit vague for the word "free".
It's Open Source. We sell a turnkey appliance + support + web updater. If you want to play with it from the sources, you can
-
How do you install it on xenserver
-
@matthewaroth35 The easiest way to start playing with it, is to download the virtual appliance. You just "import" it on your XenServer and you are up and running. Register on https://xen-orchestra.com
Then the doc is here: https://xen-orchestra.com/docs/xoa.html

I would have to do it to each server I have right ?
