Yesterday I installed X2GO on the Raspberry Pi 3 and am able to connect to it with not trouble. Please see previous thread on installing it.

I am able to connect to it using the LXDE desktop, which is great, control another device from the main desktop (or laptop) for convenience. Which this points me back to my desktop running Linux Mint 17.2 Fafaela (Dell 330 system), and what do I need to do to replicate it.

Currently, I am using Connect to local Desktop which is fine until I reboot the system. At which point I have to go to that computer and sign in locally before X2GO will connect. This isn't a big deal unless I need to restarted as I have had to due five times today for weird reasons.... lock ups.

I'm currently reading through the X2go Wiki to see what I need to do to install another desktop as when trying to connect via some of the other desktops; LXDE, KDE, GNOME they fail.

I can pretty much hear @scottalanmiller chuck and shake his head in Texas,.. but..

Cinnamon will never work as it doesn't play well with the underlying X Windows that X2Go is showing to you.

Anything based on Gnome 3 will have the same issue, Gnome 3 can't be used in this way.

Also - is connecting to the local desktop the only option on using that computers speakers?

I've installed MATE, and am able to connect via that now - but it plays Pithos using the main computers speakers. not what I want... when I have the stereo system on the other side of the room....

yes. Only the local desktop connects to local sound.

There should be options to tunnel the sound through the SSH session.

He wants to use X2Go as a remote control for the machine with the audio playing.
