SIP registrations failing for 2 phones
-
Check for UDP throttling, that can wreak havoc with devices on lower end routers.
-
Make sure that they have STUN set up properly.
-
There is no separate firewall/router. It's all built into the Comcast modem. Going through every setting on the modem, there is no SIP alg, UDP throttling etc. And it's only happening on 2 of the phones.
I've never had to setup STUN at all for remote connections. (Grandstream GXP2170s) What would you suggest?

You should always have STUN, even when not totally needed. Without it, you can have things break unpredictably.

Here is a list of STUN servers to try.

I do not use STUN with the new FreePBX and the responsive firewall. Never have issues yet. If I did, I would go back to using a STUN server.
Edit: Then again, I do not use crappy ISP provided routers anywhere either.

That list is ancient.
When I need a STUN server, I use
stun.stunprotocol.org
from stunprotocol.org -
I didn't install the network, just setting up some new phones. But the more I poke around, the more I am starting to believe that putting the comcast modem in "bridge mode" and getting a new router/firewall in here might solve the problem.

Good idea regardless.

Brought back the 2 non-working phones to my office, plugged them in, watched the Asterisk console, and haven't had a single "unregister" in an hour. Looks like that Comcast modem/router just sucks. Time for an ERL.

If you end up with an ERL out of it, that's a huge win
-
@StrongBad Yep, I've put those in at numerous businesses, and they work great with remote PBXs. Actually, I haven't found anything that they are NOT good at yet for SMBs.
-
ERLs really are amazing. We are so happy with all of ours.

They've always worked great for me, too.

I'm planning to get on the ERX bandwagon soon-ish.

ERX is very small. Most of us use ERL in business, ERX for home. I want the ERPro because it is rackmount when possible.
-
@dafyre What Scott said... ERX at home, and ERL or greater in business. My main reason for this is the Console port access. I ran into a situation where my config was borked, and after a simple restart, my ERX didn't come back online. I had no idea where it was failing so I had to break out the paper clip and start over. If I would have used the ER Lite, I could have connected via console port and checked out what was going on.

I like console ports, lol. Prices aren't too bad on Amazon.... Now to talk to Santa Clause.

@dafyre Not sure where you are located, but in the US, you can buy direct from the manufacturer.
